Sign up now to take a stand!

This year, Take a Stand Tuesday will kick-off Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month at LLCC, taking place all day on Tuesday, April 2 in A. Lincoln Commons. Take a Stand Tuesday is an annual event which allows faculty, staff and students to show the campus community that they are committed to taking a stand against sexual assault. To participate, interested parties can sign up for a time slot. Individuals and groups are both welcome. Just remember that the goal is to have all time slots filled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The objective is to provide our campus community with an all-day learning opportunity about how individuals can help prevent sexual assault and support survivors, as well as to symbolize our collective commitment to “taking a stand” against sexual assault. Educational materials and hand-outs will be provided. Help us carry our this year’s theme, “Awareness to Action” by signing up for your time slot now!

Take a stand against domestic violence today

Join members of the LLCC community and SAVE Taskforce as we take a stand against domestic violence — literally! Symbolic of our refusal to be passive bystanders of intimate partner violence in our community, we will have at least one person “taking a stand” in A. Lincoln Commons from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Using materials provided, individuals “taking a stand” will use this platform to engage willing passersby in healthy, constructive conversations about domestic and intimate partner violence, encouraging our campus community to “See the Signs, Say Something.” To participate, stop by the table at any point throughout the day!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Please consider attending an event or participating in an activity during awareness/education events at LLCC during the Week of Action, Oct. 15-19, 2018. More information will be in the LincIn in coming days.

“Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Abuse is physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure or wound someone. Domestic violence can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion or gender. It can happen to couples who are married, living together or who are dating. Domestic violence affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels.” (www.ndvh.org)

Domestic violence is a community issue; it is not “just a family problem.” Statistics indicate that one in four women and one in nine men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes (www.ndvh.org). During the month of October, national hotlines, domestic violence service providers, state and local governments as well as colleges remind us of this epidemic that cuts across racial, socioeconomic and educational lines. DV is 100 percent the fault and choice of the abuser; it is not the victim’s fault, and victims are not alone.
