The LLCC Honors Program is collecting Halloween costumes on campus and at several area locations, to be distributed to families at a “BOOtique” Oct. 20.

The public is invited to donate all sizes of costumes, both complete and partial, along with masks, props and accessories, by Oct. 16. Drop boxes are located at:

• Springfield – LLCC Student Life Office, Menard Hall, 5250 Shepherd Rd.; Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 S. 6^th St.
• Auburn – Auburn Public Library, 338 W. Jefferson St.
• Chatham – Chatham Public Library, 600 E. Spruce St.; Chatham Police Department, 117 E. Mulberry St.; Fulgenzi’s Trattoria and Catering, 214 W. Chestnut St.
• Divernon – Divernon Public Library, 221 S. 2^nd St.
• Nokomis – Nokomis High School, 511 Oberle St.; Ugly Mugs, 125 W. State St.
• Pawnee – Pawnee Public Library, 613 Douglas St.

The “BOOtique” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons on the LLCC campus. Families are invited to pick out free costumes for their children during the event .

LLCC’s 15th annual Multicultural Fest will take place today, Oct. 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside A. Lincoln Commons on the Springfield campus. The event, sponsored by LLCC Student Life, showcases various cultures with ethnic food (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), entertainment and cultural exhibits.

Local restaurants will be offering free samples of ethnic food. Restaurants serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. include Clay’s Popeye’s Bar-B-Q, Flavor of India, Hunan Chinese Restaurant, Boccardi’s Italian Imports, AZ-T-CA Mexican Grill and Nickey’s Place.

Entertainment includes dance performances by LLCC Dance Club: Express Your Seoul and LotusFire Bellydancers as well as DJ Yinka who will cover music from various regions of the world such as Latin America, Asia and Africa.

Those providing cultural exhibits are Central Counties Health Centers, Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County, International Student Association, Islamic Society of Greater Springfield, Sister Cities Association, Sol Peru, Springfield Commission on International Visitors and World Affairs Council of Central Illinois. LLCC clubs and programs participating include the Logger Activities Board, Agriculture Club/Collegiate Farm Bureau, Christian Student Fellowship Club and Adult Education’s English as a Second Language program.

LLCC Outreach Centers are also hosting multicultural events in October.

The LLCC Student Radiographers Association will be raffling two tickets to a Nov. 23 St. Louis Blues hockey game. Raffle tickets are available starting today, Oct. 3, through Oct. 31. The LLCC Black Student Union is hosting an open mic Oct. 17 in A. Lincoln Commons from 5-8 p.m. Open mic night is a social event where LLCC students and staff have a platform to openly express their voice and talents through poetry, singing, dance, instrumental solos and spoken word. The LLCC Dance Club: Express Your Seoul will be holding a coffee sale today, Sept. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. The sale features a variety of creamers, including the fall favorite, Pumpkin Spice, along with hot chocolate, tea and all the toppings you can think of! Snacks, including donuts, granola bars, M&Ms and trail mix, will also be available for purchase.

Mark your calendars! This year’s Multicultural fest is on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside of A. Lincoln Commons. The event will have multicultural food vendors, performances and multicultural exhibits on display. In case of rain, it will be held in A. Lincoln Commons.
