Chemistry Club hosting presentation today

Dr. John Martin, professor of astrophysics at University of Illinois Springfield, will be giving a talk on astronomy today, Dec. 4, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in S2212. His presentation is on “Samples From the Asteroid Bennu by Osiris Rex.” All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend! Refreshments will be provided. The presentation is hosted by the LLCC Chemistry Club.

Over 200 attendees at 7th annual Haunted Lab

Haunted Lab chemistry experimentMore than 200 kids and parents from the community attended the seventh annual Haunted Lab hosted by the LLCC Chemistry Club on Oct. 25! Both kids and club members were in costume for the event. Kids and parents watched “spooky” chemistry demonstrations and participated in hands-on science activities.  Parents were also given a packet describing science activities they could do with their kids at home.

LLCC Chemistry Club presents: 7th annual Haunted Lab, Oct. 25, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Children 5 and older with parents/guardians invited
The LLCC Chemistry Club is hosting the seventh annual “Haunted Lab” today, Oct. 25, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in upper Sangamon Hall on the LLCC-Springfield campus.

Children ages five and older and their parents/guardians are invited to the free event. Pre-registration is required at www.llcc.edu/haunted-lab.

Children will see “spooky” science demonstrations and learn about experiments they can do at home. Experiments will be conducted by club members under the guidance of Jennifer Ramm, LLCC professor of chemistry.

Science demonstration shows will run about 20 minutes and will take place in Sangamon Hall Rooms 2213. Children will see bubbles, color changes, fire and much more as they learn about science.

Shows begin every 30 minutes at 5:30, 6, 6:30 and 7 p.m. Before and after the shows, children can participate in hands-on activities and face painting across the hall in Room 2216.

Children are welcome to wear Halloween costumes to the event. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

Genetic research presentation today at 2:30 p.m.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to join the LLCC Chemistry Club for a presentation on genetic research today, Sept. 25, from 2:30-3:15 p.m. in S2216. Becky Rose, a former LLCC student, will be discussing her summer research project as part of the PRECS program (Phenotypic Plasticity Research Experience for Community College).  Becky was one of only 10 community college students chosen for this competitive program. Refreshments will be provided.
