Faculty and staff artists across LLCC’s district…we want you!

On My Own TimeIs pottery your pastime? How about drawing with pen, ink, charcoal or even crayon? Then share what inspires you by entering your artwork in LLCC’s 2017 “On My Own Time” art show!

LLCC’s in-house exhibit this year will be featured in the Trutter Museum. A local architect, Phil Trutter was truly an “On My Own Time” pioneer, experimenting with printmaking, etchings, jewelry making, sculpture, painting and more. A few pieces of Mr. Trutter’s own artwork will also be shown.

Talent abounds here at LLCC, and this unique Springfield Area Arts Council program offers individual artists the opportunity to display original work truly created on their own time. There are 12 artwork categories in which to enter your art. View the detailed list as well as the rules:

Your $5 fee per entry assists the arts council with program costs.  So get creative!  Artwork and registration fees should be submitted by Wednesday, Sept. 6.

LLCC food pantry needs your help

The Lincoln Land Community College Food Pantry needs your help to stock its shelves. All faculty and staff are encouraged to bring an item from the list below to convocation on Friday, Aug. 18. The items listed below are either out-of-stock or highly desired at this time. All food items must not be expired and single serve/individual portion items are preferred. Food item donations:

  • Mac & cheese cups
  • Tuna/Chicken salad ready-to-eat kits
  • Easy peel opening cans of soup (microwave ready)
  • Ready-to-eat pasta meals (microwave ready)
  • Trail mix
  • To-go peanut butter cups
  • Cereal –single serving size
  • Protein and granola bars
  • Ready-to-eat rice meals
  • Juice (single servings like Juicy Juice)

Several large ash trees scheduled to be removed

Facilities Services will be coordinating the removal of several large ash trees on the east side of Sangamon South, along the sidewalk to A. Lincoln Commons, beginning the morning of Monday, Aug. 14. These trees have, unfortunately, become hazardous due to their health. The utmost care will be taken to make sure that this necessary procedure happens as safely and quickly as possible. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

Visit LLCC Aviation at the state fair

LLCC’s aviation program is at the Illinois State Fair! Visitors can sit in the stubby Cessna 152 and build their own sheet metal project. The booth has moved to a different location at the fair,  now located at the entrance of Gate 2 close to the Clydesdale horses.

New CyberSec First Responder certification offered at CCTC

When it comes to cyberattacks, it’s no longer a question of if, but when. A new CyberSec First Responder certification is being offered by the LLCC Capital City Training Center, and a free informational webinar, with special guests from Logical Operations, author of the CFR certification, will be held on Aug. 30.

Participants can learn:
• Why security training matters and who do we need to train
• The need for a paradigm shift in security training
• A holistic approach to security training with CyberSec First Responder
• How CyberSec First Responder compares to other certifications

Plan to attend Convocation Friday, Aug. 18

ConvocationThe start of the 2017-18 academic year is fast approaching! Convocation for LLCC faculty and staff will be held Friday, Aug. 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast in Cass Gymnasium. Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president, will address the college-wide Convocation program at 9 a.m. The event is expected to conclude at or before 10:30 a.m.

 The Academic Services division will remain in Cass Gym for a meeting from 10:30-11:15. Faculty will stay at 11:15 for an additional meeting.

Attendees are encouraged to bring an item(s) for the LLCC Student Life food pantry that assists students with food insecurity. All food items must not be expired, and single serve/individual portion items are preferred. For suggested items, visit www.llcc.edu/food-pantry-list.
