Student Art Show opens today; reception Thursday

LLCC’s Annual Student Art Show opens today in the James S. Murray Gallery on the second floor of Menard Hall.

A reception will be held Thursday, April 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the gallery, where award winners will be announced in several categories. Students, faculty, staff and the public are invited.

The student show will be open for viewing until May 8. Khara Koffel, associate professor of art and director of the art program at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, is serving as juror for the show.

 

Honors biology students to display research projects April 16 in A. Lincoln Commons

LLCC honors students enrolled in the Biological Field Studies course in Belize will present their research projects at a symposium April 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  in A. Lincoln Commons.

Please stop by the tables and see the students’ work on display boards and in PowerPoint presentations.

Participating students are Johnathon Reeves, Tim Schaeffer, Annisa Kumerow, Brett Davis, Lindsey Carter, Ashley Holshouser, Gabe Krukowski, Sam Woolsey, Jennifer Faulkner, Heather Parsons and Carissa DuBois.

The deadline for Distinguished Service Award nominations is TODAY, April 11. Please take a moment to review the attached information and submit a nomination for faculty and/or staff who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating exemplary leadership and promoting a learner-centered environment as well as service to the college community.

LLCC Theatre presents student-directed, one-act plays April 18, 19, 25, 26

LLCC Theatre presents two, one-act, student-directed plays April 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. in the lower level of Sangamon Hall South on the Lincoln Land Community College campus.

The plays are Harold Pinter’s “The Dumb Waiter,” directed by A.J. O’Shea, and William Saroyan’s “Hello Out There,” directed by Amy Cantrall, presented on a double bill each evening.

There is no advance ticket purchase required, with a suggested $5 donation at the door.  Read more…

Hear from a panel of LLCC international students April 22

“Tasty Tales: Stories of Adapting,”  a Soup and Stories event by a panel of LLCC International Students, will be held Tuesday, April 22, from noon to 1 p.m. in the R.H. Stephens Room.

You are invited to hear our own students’ stories of their experiences adapting to a new culture. Topics will include dating, customs, education, food and leisure activities. Students will discuss the practices of their own countries and the challenging differences between cultures.

A free soup and salad lunch will be provided to students with their student ID. The cost to faculty and staff is $3.

The event is sponsored by LLCC International Club & the LLCC Cultural Awareness Team.

Retirement Party planned for Arts & Humanities Faculty

balloon_retirementThe Arts & Humanities Department is hosting a retirement celebration for four faculty retirees: Mary Fortner, Theresa Kanoza, Jean Ladendorf and Bill McCall.  Their combined retirement reception is Friday, May 9,  2-4 p.m. in the James S.
