Note from Facilities Services Regarding Event Tables
Catered Event Tables – With limited resources and linens on hand, Facilities Services has determined we are unable to maintain our table linens when they are used regularly for food/beverages. As part of their service, Nelson’s Catering provides white plastic table covering and skirting with all catering set-ups. Facilities Services requests this be the standard procedure for all conference tables set up for food/beverages.
If you prefer tablecloths, linens can be ordered for your event thru Nelson’s Catering. Please discuss your table covering options with Nelson’s when you place your catering order. Nelson’s Catering can be reached at 787-9443.
Conference Tables (non-food) – Tablecloths can be requested from Facilities Services for non-food related conference set-ups, such as registration tables, awards tables, panel tables, etc. If you would like to request black or white cloth table skirting, please specify with your event details when you contact Julie McKinney to place your facility reservation. If table skirting is requested for a catered event, the skirting will be placed after Nelson’s delivers and sets up your ordered linens, food/beverages.

A Cappella group Ball in the House to perform Friday
Friday, Nov. 15-Ball in the House musical performance from 11:30am-12:45pm in the A. Lincoln Commons! Ball in the House isn’t what you think. Taking a cappella to a new level, Ball in the House is so much more than just another singing group. They’re the redefinition of the a cappella genre with everything you’d expect from a world-class soul, pop, R&B group — except the instruments. They are the voices behind the Cool Whip commercials. That’s right, you’ve probably heard them dozens of times before, and didn’t even know it! They’ve toured with pop sensations like Sugar Ray, Jessica Simpson and Darius Rucker, while also dialing up a piece of the past supporting The Temptations and Smokey Robinson. 5 guys, 5 voices – that’s it! This is a Red & Blue Crew Arts/Education event sponsored by the Logger Activities Board.
18th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony
The 18th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at LLCC featured Trustee and State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (2nd from left), Retired Brigadier General, as master of ceremonies. Doris Williams, program specialist, presented a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. The Madrigals sang “America the Beautiful” arranged by LLCC alum Damien Kaplan. LLCC Student Jeffrey Surbeck was the featured speaker. Participants are shown here with Trustees Jerry Wesley, Dr. Charlotte Warren, Kent Gray and Dennis Shackelford. LTD and life insurance informational meeting today at 2 p.m.
An informational meeting regarding long-term disability and life insurance coverage is being held today at 2 p.m. in the Robert H. Stephens Room. A representative from Northwest Comprehensive, the College’s insurance consultant, will do a brief presentation and answer any questions you may have. Long-term disability and life insurance open enrollment ends Friday, Nov. 22. All benefit-eligible employees must complete and return the LTD enrollment form. The life insurance form will only need to be completed if you are interested in adding to your existing coverage. All forms were distributed via interoffice mail. Please contact our office if you do not have the appropriate forms.
Soup & Stories Wednesday! “My Kenyan Experience: Noel Magero (‘Miracle of Noel’ in Swahili)” presented by Altheal Randolph
Come to the R.H. Stephens Room from noon-1pm to enjoy a fantastic presentation and a great lunch! Altheal Randolph is a dynamic coach, a compassionate leader and an engaging public speaker on a national and international level. Whether advocating medical treatment and AIDS education for women in Nairobi, Kenya or teaching a woman the value of financial independence in Birmingham, Alabama (her hometown), Altheal is highly regarded as a friend and cheerleader for a God-centered, abundant life-which she considers her highest calling. She will share her unique experiences working with the largest HIV/AIDS healthcare network in Los Angeles and the Sister-Woman HIV/AIDS project, which led her to Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya. Students eat lunch free and $3 for nonstudents.

Approved minutes of the Academic Assessment Team’s September meeting have been posted. The tasks of the Standardized Tests Workgroup, Data Review Workgroup and Steering Workgroup were discussed as well as 3 vacancies that are coming up: 2 Departmental Assessment Coordinators and 1 faculty-at-large. In their October meeting, the Professional Development Team worked to more clearly define its purpose in the college and resolved to consult with the Shared Governance Council to move forward. Full minutes can be viewed HERE.

NISOD Excellence Award nominations being accepted
The college has begun the process of accepting nominations of faculty members for the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award. This award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching and leadership at Lincoln Land Community College. The awards are presented at the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Learning Excellence in Austin, Texas in May. Past NISOD Excellence Award recipients from LLCC include: Dave Cox, Jason Dockter, Marlene Emmons, Eve Fischberg, Peggy Goetsch, Angie Gum, Tim Humphrey, Jean Ladendorf, Dr. Christopher McDonald, Hugh McNiece, Dr. Richard Monke, Jennifer Ramm, Ryan Roberts, Tony Rothering, David Sack, Dr. Gerald Schaeffer, and David Sykes.
Students, staff and faculty may submit nominations, so please consider nominating a faculty member whom you feel exhibits excellence in teaching and leadership and any other qualities that set him or her apart. The nomination does not have to be lengthy; however, it should contain an explanation of why you are nominating the faculty member, including examples of excellence in teaching and leadership. Nominations should be sent to Leslie Rios, chair of the Faculty Development and Recognition Committee of the Faculty Senate, either via email (Leslie.Rios@llcc.edu) or paper. The deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, Dec. 2, 2013.
