Student Success Advisor Title Change

LLCC Student Success would like to announce a seemingly simple, yet impactful update. Effective Oct. 15, the student success coach position title will change to student success advisor. This decision was based on feedback received over the past few years from the LLCC community, particularly students. While the student success coach role has had a significant advising component, students were often confused as they would want to speak with their “advisor.” We have even encountered students who would say they have no clue who their “advisor” is, but they had had numerous meetings with their student success coach. We hope this slight shift will make the student experience more smooth and less confusing for all.

We continue to be appreciative of the hard work and dedication of the Student Success staff and those that have served as student success coaches. It’s important to understand that the student success advisor role has been and will continue to be a bit different from the merely transactional role that we’ve traditionally known as an “academic advisor.” The staff will continue to utilize and engage with the Appreciative Advising approach and be a primary point of contact for assigned students. The mission and vision of LLCC Student Success remains the same. The mission of the LLCC Student Success office is to develop supportive relationships with students in which they take ownership of their education and learn the tools needed to make informed and meaningful decisions about their educational goals. And the vision is every student will have their own success story.

We look forward to continuing to support our students and work collaboratively with folks across campus to help ensure student success. As we prepare to move into our new space in Menard Hall, we hope we can continue forward momentum in an innovative and collaborative way.
