School spirit abounded at LLCC’s second cardboard boat regatta, which was enjoyed by students, faculty, staff and alumni on Friday, Sept. 22, at Lake Macoupin. The event raised $240 for charity. Boats from 10 teams were on display on the lawn west of the Helen Hamilton area prior to the race:

- Bringing the Heat from Hillsboro
- Escape from Alcatraz
- IV Leaguers
- LLCC Games Club
- The Pink Slip 2.0
- RV Swan Linc
- Ships N’ Giggles
- SS FAFSA Simplification
- SS Scholarship
DJ Frederick Van provided music during the event, Kona Ice served snow cones and LLCCPD grilled hamburgers and hot dogs.
Boats competed in two heats with the top two placers in each heat competing in a final race. The team from the LLCC Library (Alexis Rogers, Amanda Wiesenhofer, Skylar Kriegel, Katrina Quattlander, Leanne Roseberry, Scott Ebbing, Jill Campbell, Ryan Roberts, Leslie Ross, Tammy Kuhn-Schnell and Nancy Weichert) with the boat, RV Swan Linc, won the race, fastest boat (time of 2:05) and best decorations.
Awards were also given for:
- Second place finisher – SS FAFSA Simplification (Kenzie Chalifoux, Chase Dilworth, Kat Chamberlain, Dawn Burch, Alison Mills, Lara Marshall, Laura Wethington and Gianna Hines)
- Third place finisher – Boat Scootin’ Boogie (Jennifer Davis and Jennifer Ramm)
- Titanic and LLCC School Spirit Awards – IV Leaguers with a time of 32 seconds (Sarina Sloman, Capria Fields, Katie Kuschel and Kimberly Young)
- Best Engineered Award – LLCC Games Club (Ben Fenimore, Aerwyna Eastvold, Tamara Pierson, Lucas Turner, Tea Shuman, Kyra, Aislinn and Kirk Yenerall)
