Approximately 90 students from six area high schools competed in the regional Academic Challenge held Feb. 9 at LLCC. Students competed as individuals and as teams (of up to 14 students) testing in their choice of two of these subjects — biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, mathematics and physics. View the team and individual rankings.
Prior to the competition, LLCC hosted exhibits for students to learn about opportunities at the college. Also, thanks to support from the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE), a $200 LLCC Foundation scholarship was awarded at the event.
Dr. Vern Lindquist, vice president, academic services, and Dr. Chris McDonald, professor of political science, presented at the Academic Challenge, and Dr. Scott Searcy, dean of mathematics and computer science, served as emcee. The event was organized Lucinda Caughey, assistant professor of computer science.
WICS/FOX Illinois covered the event, interviewing Searcy and Kyla Kruse, director, communications.
