In addition, academic advisors and student development professionals have transitioned to new positions called student success coaches. These changes are reflective of our commitment to being a student-ready college and our focus on developing supportive relationships with students. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that if you have concerns about a student or find them in crisis, we encourage you to call the counselor line: 217-786-9660.  This number is one that staff and faculty (not to be given to students) can call Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. if you need to refer a student for crisis intervention/counseling. When you call, a counselor on the main campus will answer, and then you can either have the student speak to the counselor via phone or the counselor can come to the student’s location. If it is after 5 p.m., or on the weekend, the counselor line will connect you with LLCC Police.

We offer short-term, solution-focused, confidential counseling services to currently enrolled students, free of charge. If you have concerns about a student, but they are not in immediate crisis, you may call 217-786-2224 and ask to speak to one of the counselors. We can then explain how we can reach out to the student of concern. Please note the counselor line is for immediate crisis only and not for issues related to classroom management or behavior; if that is the concern, please contact Leslie Johnson, AVP of student success.

LLCC Advising, Counseling and Career Services is hosting the second half of its annual Transfer Fair today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. This free event gives students one convenient location to talk with recruiters from several different colleges and universities about transferring on to complete a bachelor’s degree here in Illinois and the surrounding area.

Today, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Private Illinois Colleges and Universities (PICU) and some out-of-state colleges. The participating recruiters from the various colleges and universities will be available to discuss the various majors, minors and educational opportunities that their schools offer. The recruiters will also provide information about their schools upcoming campus visit days and tour information. Some of the attending recruiters will be able to take admission applications and provide acceptance status.

Please encourage students to attend the Transfer Fair to explore the options available to them after completing classes and programs here at LLCC.

LLCC Advising, Counseling and Career Services has partnered with J.C. Penney to offer a “Suit-Up” event on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 8 a.m.-noon. At this event students, alumni, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to purchase professional clothing, shoes and accessories for 40 percent off. The discount even applies to items already on sale! The idea is for students to be able to purchase career dress apparel at a very affordable price, but  J.C. Penney has graciously agreed to offer this to faculty and staff as well. Along with discounted apparel, there will be prizes and giveaways, mini makeovers at Sephora, and consultations and hair touch ups in the salon! All that is needed to attend the event is an LLCC ID card.

Please join us as we say farewell to Sam Kost, academic advisor, today from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the LLCC Advising and Counseling Conference Room. Sam has been with our office for two years and will be greatly missed by students and staff. Come down to say goodbye and enjoy some treats.
