Writing Center fall services and hours

The LLCC Writing Center is available to help students with any writing assignment for any class at any stage of the writing process. We are currently meeting with students remotely via Zoom with some limited in-person appointments on the main campus. Fall hours of operation are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you teach a writing-intensive class and would like the Writing Center to visit your classroom, the Writing Center specialists are also available to conduct remote classroom visits via Zoom, MS Teams or pre-recorded video. If there are other ways the Writing Center can support students in your class, please let us know.

Call us at 217-786-2341 to schedule an appointment today!

Writing Center meeting with students via Zoom

Midterm is quickly approaching, and deadlines for writing assignments in your classes may be as well. If you assign writing in your course, please encourage your students to remotely visit the LLCC Writing Center. We are meeting with students via Zoom. (To meet the needs of students with special circumstances, we do have other options available upon request, such as a phone conference or live tutoring via email.)

Students can call 217-786-2341 to schedule appointments. Our summer hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Update on Writing Center services

The LLCC Writing Center will be offering Zoom live chat tutoring sessions for writing assignments beginning Monday, April 6. Students must contact the center so that staff may schedule Zoom chats ahead of time. Appointments can be made by calling the Writing Center at 217-786-2341. Zoom appointments are offered Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. These sessions will be scheduled for 45 minutes each.

Additionally, the Writing Center will continue to offer help via email if a student is more comfortable with that format or is unable to use Zoom. Email assistance is offered during all of our operating hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Email requests will be treated on a first come/first served basis (similar to a walk-ins). If students submit an essay for review outside of our normal hours, the Writing Center will respond the next day in the order that emails are received.

Students should include course information and assignment instructions when requesting assistance.

Paul Simon Essay Contest local winners announced

The LLCC Writing Center is pleased to announce the local winners of this year’s Paul Simon Essay Contest:

  • First Place: Abigail High
  • Second Place: Link Gallagher
  • Third Place: Corry Jankowski

Congratulations to the winners! Thanks to generous donations from the LLCC Foundation and the LLCC Bookstore, all local winners will receive prizes, and the first place winner will have her essay forwarded on to the statewide competition for a chance to win a $500 scholarship.

Writing Center to offer assistance to students via email

Because the LLCC campus is following guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the LLCC Writing Center will not be meeting any students face-to-face until further notice.

As of March 23 and until further notice, the Writing Center will be offering assistance to students through email only. We will respond to emails during the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.

If students need help with a writing assignment, they may send the document to writing.center@llcc.edu. One of our Writing Center specialists will review the essay and communicate with them directly.

As always, we are here to help you in whatever way we can.
