The LLCC Honors Program is collecting winter outerwear to share the warmth in our community! Donations can include winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves and blankets (new or gently used). The donation drive goes through today, Nov. 3. The collection station will be located in A. Lincoln Commons from  8 a.m.-5 p.m. with a drop box to place items. All donations will be distributed to the Family Violence Coalition.

LLCC Student Life and TRIO Student Support Services are hosting the next Soup & Stories program, “Native American Heritage Month: Literature and Conversation,” on Monday, Nov. 6 from noon-2 p.m. in the R.H. Stephens Room. Sheila Walk from the Springfield Area Arts Council will be reading an excerpt from the book, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.” She will be accompanied by David Tell playing the Native American flute.

The program is open to the LLCC community, but geared toward the development of students. If faculty and staff are interested in attending there is just a $3 charge for the lunch.

The LLCC Hablamos Club will be selling traditional painted Day of the Dead masks today and tomorrow, Nov. 1 and 2, in A. Lincoln Commons from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“They Call Me Q” is a story of a girl from Bombay growing up in the Boogie Down Bronx who gracefully seeks balance between cultural pressures brought forth by her traditional parents and wanting acceptance into her new culture.

Join us for this amazing presentation that speaks to the universal search for identity experienced by immigrants of all nationalities.

Help the LLCC Black Student Union collect clean, slightly used or new coats to be donated to local public schools and shelters for the 11th Annual Coat Drive sponsored by Eastside Pride. A box will be available in LLCC Advising, Counseling and Career Services from Nov. 1 -Dec. 1. Thank you for helping to keep children and families warm this winter! The fifth annual “Haunted Lab,” sponsored this year by the LLCC Chemistry Club and LLCC Quiz Bowl Team, was another success, with at least 130 attendees and lots of “oohs” and “ahhs” expressed. LLCC students, under the direction of chemistry professors Dr. Michael Ramm and Jennifer Ramm, demonstrated scary science experiments and even did a bit of ghost hunting.

The LLCC Black Student Union is hosting an open mic night today, Oct. 31 in A. Lincoln Commons from 5-7:30 p.m. Open mic night is a social event sponsored by the BSU where LLCC students and staff have a platform to openly express their voice and talents through poetry, singing, dance, instrumental solos and spoken word. Come showcase your talents and let your voice be heard!
