The Student Life Office is seeking faculty/staff volunteers for their New Student Welcome Lunch on Wed. August 20. Volunteers are needed to assist with check-in (10am-11:30am), eat lunch with the students (11:30am-12:30pm), and to represent their departments at the information session (10am-11:30am). Blood drive on Springfield campus today
A blood drive will take place in the Student Union today from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate. Contact the Student Life Office for more information.
PTK makes donation to Henson Robinson Zoo

The students raised funds through a silent auction and various collection events put together with the Honors Club. Well done to these students for all of your hard work!
Honors Club recognized for efforts in “Be a Hero” Organ/Tissue Donor Campaign
Out of 21 community colleges participating, LLCC won second place in the Secretary of State’s “Be a Hero” Organ/Tissue Donor Campaign. Secretary White cited LLCC’s creative campaign that included numerous registration drives, a press conference, and using social media to encourage donation.
Accepting the award at the ceremony Wednesday were Board of Trustees Chair Justin Reichert, liaison Joanie Rogers of the LLCC Foundation, Honors Club members Russell Michelich and Tyler Mathews, and Honors Club advisors Dr. Claire Gordon and David Laubersheimer.
In addition to this plaque, LLCC received one paid, student internship through Donate Life Illinois Partners. The internship was awarded to Tyler Mathews, one of the leaders of the campaign. He will serve the internship at Memorial Medical Center.
7th Annual Brian McMillen Memorial Run/Walk this weekend!
The 7th Annual Brian McMillen Memorial Run/Walk will take place this Saturday, May 24, 2013 at 8 a.m. If you are interested in volunteering to assist with various duties such as set up on Friday, May 23 or staffing the water station stop, registration table, food table, etc. Saturday, Mary 24, please contact Alison Mills at alison.mills@llcc.edu or 786-2275.
The LLCC Veterans Club established the Brian McMillen Scholarship to honor Brian’s legacy and to provide financial support to veterans attending LLCC. Proceeds from the 7th Annual Brian McMillen Memorial Run/Walk support the LLCC Brian McMillen Veterans Scholarship and other projects and charities.
Finals Week at LLCC
It’s finals week at LLCC!
BOOK BUYBACK is today-Thurs., 8:30-5, Friday 8:30-4 in the Bookstore. Buyback at Jacksonville, Taylorville, Litchfield and Beardstown will be Tuesday-Thurs., 9-5.
Student Life will be offering free massages Monday and Tuesday, 10am-2pm in A. Lincoln Commons for those who sign up in the Student Life Office. Also, the Shape Up Club will be in A. Lincoln Commons Monday through Thursday, 9am-2pm with Brain Food!
Adult Education will conduct its annual Celebration of Success ceremony Wednesday, May 14. The evening begins with music by the LLCC Big Band at 6 p.m., followed by the ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union of Menard Hall.
A reminder that the combined retirement reception for David Laubersheimer, dean of Arts and Humanities, and Glenda Thomas, assistant to the dean of Arts and Humanities, will be Thursday, May 15, 2 to 4 p.m. in the Trutter Center.
Commencement will take place on Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield. For details, click HERE.
LLCC Beardstown hosted SOBERFEST May 2; blood drive planned May 8, 9-1
LLCC students and staff attended the event where they experienced hands-on activities and lectures to educate them on the dangers of drunk driving. George Murphy of M.A.D.D., Officer Chris Baer of the Beardstown Police Department, and Brian Becker of the Beardstown Fire Department were the guest speakers. There were several vendors and a bake sale. 
The highlight of the day was the Drunk Driving simulation. For this simulation, the Jacksonville Police Department brought a golf cart and goggles that simulated the vision of someone with a 0.1 blood alcohol level. Students wore the goggles and attempted to drive the cart through course made up of orange cones.

Packed house hears international students at Soup and Stories
The April 22 Soup and Stories featuring international students packed the R. H. Stephens Room. Panelists described differences in their native cultures and what they have experienced living in the U.S. And, we all discovered that Dr. Beth Wiediger, professor of psychology, speaks fluent Portuguese, having grown up in Brazil! Beth, who moved to the U.S. while in high school, assisted a Brazilian student by translating for him at the event.

Green Celebration tomorrow!
Please join us for a Green Celebration in the Workforce Careers Center Wed., April 23, 4-4:45 p.m.
Displays will feature solar and biodiesel trainers, bio-fueled go-cart, campus prairie, LLCC Environmental Club and Sustainability Team, along with “solar-powered snacks.”
At 4:30 p.m., LLCC Board Chair Justin Reichert will announce new green initiatives of the college and unveil the LEED plaque for the Workforce Careers Center.
