Today’s events: Constitution Day and blood drive

Name That Amendment:  11 a.m., A. Lincoln Commons. Play trivia about the U.S. Constitution for prizes!

Constitution Day lecture: noon, Trutter Center.  “Free Speech Under Fire: Does the First Amendment Apply to Higher Education?” is being presented by Anthony DiMaggio, Ph.D., LLCC political science assistant professor, and John K. A Blood Drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union, Menard Hall.

 

Club Information Day reservations needed!

Club Information Day is Fri., Sept. 19 from 9am-3pm in the R. H. Stephens Room. This event is a GREAT opportunity to showcase your club or organization AND also encourage students to attend!

 

As a reminder, we are giving away 250 Subway lunches at 11:30am for students only so this will be well-attended event which could be great exposure for your club if you sign-up. Additionally, clubs who have a student representative at this event for at least 2 hours will get 1 credit toward their Leadership Series requirement. Today, May 20, there is a New Student Orientation at 5:30 p.m. beginning in the R.H. Stephens Room.

Wednesday, there will be a Starting Your Business in Illinois Workshop in Montgomery Hall, room 1144 at 1:30 p.m., as well as an ASAP Information Session at 5:30 p.m. in the R.H. Stephens Room.

 

Finals Week at LLCC

It’s finals week at LLCC!

BOOK BUYBACK is today-Thurs., 8:30-5, Friday 8:30-4 in the Bookstore. Buyback at Jacksonville, Taylorville, Litchfield and Beardstown will be Tuesday-Thurs., 9-5.

Student Life will be offering free massages Monday and Tuesday, 10am-2pm in A. Lincoln Commons for those who sign up in the Student Life Office.  Also, the Shape Up Club will be in A. Lincoln Commons Monday through Thursday, 9am-2pm with Brain Food!

Adult Education will conduct its annual Celebration of Success ceremony Wednesday, May 14. The evening begins with music by the LLCC Big Band at 6 p.m., followed by the ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union of Menard Hall.

A reminder that  the combined retirement reception for David Laubersheimer, dean of Arts and Humanities, and Glenda Thomas, assistant to the dean of Arts and Humanities, will be Thursday, May 15, 2 to 4 p.m. in the Trutter Center.

Commencement will take place on Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield.  For details, click HERE.

This Week at LLCC

The Annual Employee Recognition and Appreciation Ceremony is on Wednesday!  Join us in the Student Union, Menard Hall at 3 p.m. for music and hors d’oeuvres and the recognition and awards presentations will be gin at 3:45 p.m.

On Thursday, the Gay Straight Alliance bake sale takes place in A. Lincoln Commons from 8 a.m. to noon.  Also, an Insurance Information Session will be in the R.H. Stephens Room at 2 p.m.

LLCC Beardstown will be hosting a Blood Drive on Thursday, May 8 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

An Arts & Humanities Faculty retirement reception will be on Friday,  2-4 p.m. in the James S. Murray Gallery.

Monday through Wednesday, 9-11 a.m., stop by A. Lincoln Commons to check out the Bowling Club fundraiser.

This weekend at LLCC

The Student Life Office invites the public to the annual “Battle of the Bands” competition Friday, April 25. Door open at 5:30 p.m. and bands will perform from 6-10 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the Springfield campus.

The final performance in the 2014 LLCC Recital Series
will feature the lively Celtic music of the Emerald Underground on Sunday,
April 27. The 4 p.m. concert will be held in the Trutter Center. More

LLCC Theatre presents two, one-act, student-directed plays April 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. in the lower level of Sangamon Hall South on the Lincoln Land Community College campus. The plays are Harold Pinter’s “The Dumb Waiter,” directed by A.J. O’Shea, and William Saroyan’s “Hello Out There,” directed by Amy Cantrall, presented on a double bill each evening.

Happening today: Earth Week activities & Soup & Stories

Join us for Earth Week activities taking place today! At 10am, take a bird banding tour with Biology Professor Tony Rothering, beginning in front of A. Lincoln Commons. From 10am. – 2pm. enjoy solar snacks outside A. Lincoln Commons.  A presentation “Everyday Living: The Green Way” by the Environmental Club will be in A. Lincoln Commons 12:30-1:30pm.  An Earth Day Dinner will be held in Bistro Verde, starting at 5:30pm. $59 per person, reservations required at 786.2432.

Also today, a Soup and Stories event “Tasty Tales: Stories of Adapting” by a panel of LLCC International Students, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the R.H. Stephens Room. Hear our own students’ stories of their experiences adapting to a new culture. Topics will include dating, customs, education, food and leisure activities. Students will discuss the practices of their own countries and the challenging differences between cultures. A free soup and salad lunch will be provided to students with their student ID. The cost to faculty and staff is $3.

Green Celebration tomorrow!

Please join us for a Green Celebration in the Workforce Careers Center Wed., April 23, 4-4:45 p.m.

Displays will feature solar and biodiesel trainers, bio-fueled go-cart, campus prairie, LLCC Environmental Club and Sustainability Team, along with “solar-powered snacks.”

At 4:30 p.m., LLCC Board Chair Justin Reichert will announce new green initiatives of the college and unveil the LEED plaque for the Workforce Careers Center.
