LLCC-Taylorville to offer Microsoft Office training

LLCC-Taylorville will offer Microsoft Office training this spring to help individuals enhance their productivity and upgrade their skills in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Employers are also invited to send groups of employees to the training.

Each class will meet for two mornings and be taught by Dee Krueger, director of LLCC-Taylorville, located at 800 S. Spresser. Cost for each two-session class is $149.

Classes include Word Level 1, March 1 and 3; Word Level 2, April 5 and 7; Excel Level 1, April 12 and 14; Excel Level 2, April 26 and 28; PowerPoint Level 1, May 17 and 19; and Outlook Level 1, June 6 and 8.

LLCC-Jacksonville to host community scholarship event Jan. 25

LLCC-Jacksonville, located at 32 N. Central Park Plaza, will host a free scholarship information and FAFSA completion event on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 3-7 p.m. Current LLCC students, high school seniors and their families are invited to attend.

Representatives from the LLCC Foundation will be available to answer questions and provide scholarship application assistance from 3-6 p.m.

Families who would like assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can schedule a 30-minute appointment between 3-7 p.m. to meet with an LLCC financial aid professional.

From 4:30-5:30 p.m., attendees can visit an exhibit area with local community organizations providing information on various scholarships. Participating organizations include the LLCC Foundation, Jacksonville Promise, Illinois Sheriffs’ Association, Cass County Farm Bureau Foundation, MCS Community Services, Farm Credit Illinois, Jacksonville Rotary Foundation, Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation, Jacksonville Skilled Nursing, Learning Disabilities Associate of Illinois, and The Ladies Education Society.

College Now information sessions

LLCC will be holding information sessions on the College Now program in January and February.

Information sessions will be offered for:

  • Taylorville area high school students and their parents/guardians — Wednesdays, Jan. 18 and Feb. 1, at 5 p.m., LLCC-Taylorville, 800 S. Spresser St.
  • Jacksonville High School students and their parents/guardians — Wednesday, Jan. 18, and Thursday, Feb. 16, from 5:30-6 p.m., Jacksonville High School Auditorium, 1211 N. Diamond St.

College Now allows high school students who are at least 16 years old and in good academic standing to earn college credit by taking afternoon classes during their normal school day.

LLCC-Litchfield Student Club holds Thanksgiving food drive

Kristy Compton, CEFS Montgomery County resource specialist; Adrienne Frazier, LLCC-Litchfield education services representative; Christine Marietta, LLCC-Litchfield administrative assistantThe LLCC-Litchfield Student Club sponsored a Thanksgiving food drive from Nov. 7-17 in which students and faculty collected 383 non-perishable food items. These items were donated to the CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation in Montgomery County.

Classes competed to collect the most items for the drive and win a pizza party. General Biology taught by Amy Delap was honored as the class with the most donations.

Tisha Miller, enrollment coordinator, provided information on LLCC programs including opportunities available through LLCC Adult Education to attendees at the Christian County Learning Express Resource Fair on Nov. 2.

LLCC-Litchfield sponsored the 2022 Imagine Hillsboro Education Committee Spooktakular Golf Scramble that was held Oct. 22.

Jessie Blackburn, director, LLCC-Litchfield, and Tisha Miller, enrollment coordinator, represented LLCC at the 10th annual Hillsboro Trick-or-Treat Trail on Friday, Oct. 28. About 300 youngsters participated in the event sponsored by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, The Journal-News, Hillsboro Rotary and participating businesses.

Tiffany Elliott, academic support program coordinator and part-time faculty, wrote the essay “Ever thought about teaching college students? Consider teaching part-time with us at LLCC!” for the State Journal-Register Oct. 30. The essay highlights the upcoming Part-Time Faculty Information Fairs being held 6-8 p.m. on main campus Nov. 2  and at Outreach Centers in Jacksonville, Litchfield and Taylorville on Nov. 9.
