LLCC-Beardstown held food and clothing drives the last three weeks in November during which students and faculty collected more than 200 items, including non-perishable food, hats, gloves, socks, mittens and scarves. These items were donated to the LLCC-Beardstown Food Pantry, Cass County Food Pantry, New 2 You Consignment Store and Beardstown Middle School.
Classes competed to collect the most items for the drive and win a pizza party. Two sections of Composition I (EGL 101) taught by Erin Schafer, adjunct instructor, were honored — one as the class with the most food drive donations and the other as the class that collected the most clothing drive items.
Many thanks to staff and students for making the food drive and Administrative Assistant Peer 2 Peer Connections group “Stuff the Stocking” events a great success in Beardstown!

Starting on Thursday, Oct. 17, contractors will begin installing outdoor sidewalk lighting at LLCC-Taylorville. We anticipate this work to take approximately 3 to 4 weeks from start to finish. Please use caution and be aware of all construction traffic as you drive and walk at LLCC-Taylorville as the work will be in close proximity to sidewalks. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tim Ervin at 786-9605 or at tim.ervin@llcc.edu.
LLCC is working with WindSolarUSA and Senergy Electric to install rooftop solar panels at its Litchfield and Jacksonville locations. The installation at LLCC-Litchfield is nearly complete, and the project at LLCC-Jacksonville begins today, Aug. 5. The solar panels are expected to offset 95 percent of LLCC’s electrical consumption at Litchfield and 75 percent of its electrical consumption at Jacksonville.
“The benefits of investing in these alternative energy projects include energy cost savings, carbon emission reduction and support of the college’s long-standing commitment to sustainable practices,” explains Tim Ervin, LLCC director of construction and environmental health and safety.
LLCC’s solar installations are part of the Illinois Power Agency’s Adjustable Block Program, a state program providing incentives for solar photovoltaic systems. Illinois has committed to produce 25 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2025. The renewable energy credits provided back to the grid by the solar panels LLCC is hosting will help the state meet its renewable energy requirement.
“In addition to the energy savings, as a part of the state program, the college will see program incentive payments of more than $100,000 per site over a period of five years to help cover the cost of installation,” adds Ervin.
The installation at LLCC-Litchfield includes a 124.5 kW system with 415 modules on the south slopes of the administration as well as arts and technology buildings. Contractors will be installing a 156.4 kW system with 434 modules on the roof at LLCC-Jacksonville. The work is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.
The solar installations will have module-level monitoring, allowing for real-time observation of each solar panel’s performance for maintenance and use as an educational tool in classrooms.
Starting on Monday, June 3, contractors will begin installing solar panels on the roofs at both buildings at LLCC-Litchfield. We anticipate this work will take approximately 30-45 calendar days to complete. Contractors will be sure to maintain access to both buildings at all times. Please use caution and be aware of all construction traffic and materials being lifted up on to the roof during this time period. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tim Ervin at 786-9605 or at tim.ervin@llcc.edu.
