Due to staffing issues, the LLCC Math Center will have slightly reduced hours for the remainder of the summer term. From July 18-28, the Math Center will be open Mondays-Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.

LLCC Summer Boost: Help us spread the word!
There is still time for graduating high school seniors, and others who will be attending college for the first time to register for LLCC Summer Boost at www.llcc.edu/boost! The program helps students boost their writing, math and study skills in preparation for fall classes.
LLCC Summer Boost classes will be offered on the LLCC Springfield campus Mondays-Thursdays beginning July 18 and concluding Aug. 4. Taught by LLCC faculty in a face-to-face format, class options include English or English for English Language Learners – 10 a.m.-noon, College Success Skills – 1-2 p.m. and Math – 2-4 p.m.
Students participating in both morning and afternoon sessions will receive a free Quiznos lunch each day. Books, supplies and T-shirts will also be provided at no charge.
Registration closes at 5 p.m. on July 13.
CAS awarded renewed certification from CRLA
The LLCC Center for Academic Success has been awarded renewed certification as a Level 1 Certified Tutor Training Program by the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
For more than 30 years, CRLA has been a leader in learning assistance, reading and academic support programs with almost 1,300 members and over 2,000 certified training programs worldwide.
CAS has worked hard to maintain a tutor training program that meets CRLA’s rigorous standards and has successfully completed the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) peer review process. Achieving certification means that CAS has met CRLA’s high standards for tutor selection, training, direct service and evaluation as an integral part of our overall tutoring program.
Peer tutor open interviews April 26-27
Do you know students who would make excellent peer tutors? Please let them know about open interviews for peer tutoring on April 26 and 27, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons or via Zoom. Interested students should have earned an A in the course(s) they wish to tutor and must have a 3.0 or higher GPA among other qualifications.
Tutors are needed in every subject area but especially in the following subjects:
- math
- biology
- chemistry
- physics
- computer science
- philosophy
- history
- agriculture
- economics
- political science
- psychology
- sociology
- English
Please share this information with the exceptional students you have worked with that you think would make great peer tutors.

CAS to host Final Exam Prep Seminars
The LLCC Center for Academic Success will be hosting Final Exam Prep Seminars on Tuesday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 4.
Topics include developing a study plan; how to study from lecture notes, textbooks and PowerPoints; tips on how to answer objective, short answer and essay exam questions; and managing test anxiety.
The seminars will be offered both in-person and via Zoom and are open to all LLCC students. A full schedule of dates and times and registration information can be found on the CAS webpage. Students may also register by calling 217-786-2396.
Tiffany Elliott joins CAS
The LLCC Center for Academic Success welcomes Tiffany Elliott as student academic support program coordinator. Tiffany has served LLCC for the past 15 years as a writing center specialist and adjunct instructor with the LLCC Department of English and Humanities. As part of her new position with CAS, she will be recruiting peer tutors from all academic departments. Jamie McCoy in new position at LLCC-Medical District
Jamie McCoy has joined the staff of LLCC-Medical District in the new position of workforce development and health care continuing education coordinator. She previously served as student academic support programs coordinator in the LLCC Center for Academic Success. She joined the college in 2008.
