Community Education classes beginning in January

Community Education has several classes beginning in January, including:

Midday Yoga – Eight-week course for all experience levels. Class meets in the Trutter Center from 1-2 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 7. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat.  Cost is $80. Course code: CEW 802-01A. Another eight-week session begins March 25.

R.A.D. Women’s Self Defense – Open to any female ages 11 to adult. The R.A.D. program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques begins with teaching awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance skills, and progresses on to the basics of hands-on defense training. Participants in this four-week course learn to take an active role in their own self-defense and psychological well being. The RAD system of realistic defense will provide participants with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance. Workbook provided. Instructor is Brendan Lee, LLCC Police.

R.A.D. meets Tuesdays, Jan. 27-Feb. 17 from 6-9 p.m. in the Trutter Center. Cost is $25. Call 786-2292 to register!

Become an instructor for Community Education

Community Education is looking to add new classes in summer and fall 2015, and we need your help! Do you have a passion or hobby you would like to teach? Or, do you know someone who might? Individuals with skills in the following areas are encouraged to propose a new class for our program:

Parent and Me Holiday Monsters class Oct. 25

LLCC employees and their children are invited to join baking wizard Jolene Adams to learn to make monster cupcakes, Nutella bats and more in the Culinary Institute’s Parent and Me Holiday Monsters class. The class meets this Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the baking lab in the Workforce Careers Center. The class is being offered at a special price for employees and their children. Adults and children are encouraged to come in Halloween costume. Register online or by calling extension 62292. For more information, call 62432.

Academy of Lifelong Learning holds Fall Celebration Wed., Oct. 1

The Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) will hold its Fall Celebration from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Trutter Center. Individuals 50 and greater who are interested in learning and exploring what the Academy of Lifelong Learning offers are invited to the event. The featured speaker is Ronald Solberg, who will present “Those Magnificent ‘Whizbang’ Traveling Salesmen of Illinois.”

Culinary Institute announces fall 2014 food and wine classes

Layout 1The Culinary Institute has announced its schedule of non-credit food and wine classes for fall 2014! The schedule includes cook and dine courses, special cooking topics, Bistro Verde dinners and other classes. Topics being featured include eating for health, baking and desserts, holiday foods, parent and me classes, and advanced kitchen boot camp. Instruction is provided by culinary and nutrition experts at LLCC as well as from Springfield and surrounding areas. Registrations are being accepted now.  More info…

Academy of Lifelong Learning annual kickoff TODAY

 The LLCC Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) will hold its annual kickoff event this morning, Thursday, July 24 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 S. Walnut St. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. with a brief program at 10 a.m., followed by refreshments. The public is invited, including anyone interested in becoming a member. 

Visitors are encouraged to gather information on the many opportunities and activities open to ALL members. The Membership Committee will have a table to sign up new members, take renewals and answer membership questions. Leaders of various interest groups within ALL will have displays with details on upcoming activities for the year. Find out more…
