African-American History Month

Celebrate African-American History Month. Vistion 2020: Elevate, Accentuate, Illuminate Your Future
LLCC is celebrating African-American History Month during February with various events. The theme for this year’s observance is “Vision 2020: Elevate, Accentuate, Illuminate Your Future.”

Activities begin today with the African-American History Month Kickoff featuring Rosevelt Pratt with the African Drum and Dance Ensemble and LLCC student Gerald Cole Jr. of Torch_Nation from noon to 1:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. The event is co-sponsored by the LLCC African-American History Month Committee and LLCC Student Life.

Press conference Monday postponed

The press conference scheduled at LLCC Monday, Feb. 3 at 10:30 a.m. has been postponed as the college continues to acknowledge the loss of former LLCC Board Chair Cinda Edwards and her husband, Frank Edwards. A new date for the press conference will be announced.

LLCC students, faculty and staff are invited to submit ideas for five road names on the Springfield campus, shown on the map in yellow boxes. The winning names will be selected by the President’s Cabinet, and five $50 VISA cards will be awarded for winning submissions. (If a road name is selected that was suggested by more than one person, a drawing will be held.) Submit your ideas yet today, Jan. 31, to be eligible for prizes.

Christie Hovey finishes four-year term on IBEA board

Christie Hovey, professor of computer applications, finished up her four-year term on the Illinois Business Education Association (IBEA) executive board as outgoing past president at the November 2019 Annual Fall Conference held in Springfield. Christie had previously served on the IBEA board as second vice president, first vice president and president. She also served as an IBEA representative on the Illinois Association of Career and Technical Education (IACTE) board. Christie will continue serving as the Mid-Illinois Business Education Association (MIBEA) president.

Welcome Doc Usher

Douglas "Doc" UsherDouglas “Doc” Usher is a new a full-time training specialist for truck driver training at LLCC. He drove for TMC for seven years and mostly recently worked here at the college as a part-time trainer. Doc is a graduate of LLCC’s truck driver training program. Welcome Katrina Quattlander

Katrina QuattlanderKatrina Quattlander has recently joined the college as library access services assistant. She worked as a temporary reference specialist at the college during the fall semester and previously worked as a K-12 librarian.
