A call for monologues!

The Feminist Activist Coalition student club at LLCC is issuing a public call for theatre monologues, dialogues or ensemble pieces depicting personal stories about identity. How has gender, sex, race, ethnicity, age, able-bodiedness, body image, sexuality, etc. impacted your experiences in the world?

We are looking for dynamic, reflective solo or small ensemble pieces that would last from one to seven minutes for a show we are sponsoring, which will be performed the weekend of March 31-April 1 at the Trutter Center, on campus of LLCC. While anyone of any age may write and submit a piece, performers must be at least 18 years old.  We do anticipate the show will have adult language and themes.

Send all submissions by Jan. 16, 2017 to FAC club advisor, Dr. Deborah Brothers, professor of English via deborah.brothers@llcc.edu

For more information, contact FAC club President Terrelle Jackson at TJack4632@llcc.edu

Film series continues Thursday with “To Live”

Arts and Humanities invites everyone to the next film in the “Through a Different Lens” series Thursday, Nov. 10, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Trutter Center.

To Live” (1994)  follows the life of one family in China, from the heady days of gambling dens in the 1940s to the austere hardship of the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s. And through all of their fierce struggles with fate, all of the political twists and turns they endure, their hope is basically summed up by the heroine, a wife who loses wealth and position and children, and who says, “All I ask is a quiet life together.”

The film series is hosted by Ashley Green, Ph.D., assistant professor of English; Paul Van Heuklom, professor of English; and Joseph Hoff, Ph.D., professor of Spanish. There is no charge to attend.

Thanks from Chemistry Club

The LLCC Chemistry Club would like to thank everyone who helped make our 4th annual Haunted Lab a success this year. We had over 150 kids registered, and nearly 300 people attended overall this year! Thanks to PRM, Office of Academic Innovation and eLearning, and the Student Life Office for help with publicity, registration, and fantastic posters/buttons/magnets for the event. And special thanks to all of the faculty and staff and their kids for coming to the event and making it so much fun!

LLCC launches Community Survey

The survey takes about five-10 minutes to complete and responders can remain anonymous. Those who include their name and email or phone will be placed in a drawing for a $50 gift card. Deadline to fill out the survey is Friday, Nov. 18, 2016.

The survey can be accessed at: www.llcc.edu/survey

Note: This is a different survey than the PACE Campus Climate Survey recently conducted for employees.

You may hear some drilling today before 8 a.m. and between classes

We have begun the project to upgrade the cooling and battery systems in the communications area in the lower level of Menard.  This will involve drilling holes in the concrete slab systems at the southeast corner of the building.  We will begin on Wednesday morning (today) and will limit our drilling to the hours prior to 8 a.m.  We may use the periods between classes to drill a small pilot hole or two, but this will be on a limited basis.

We expect that the entire project will be completed in a matter of weeks, not months, and appreciate your patience.

Thank you.
