Cassie Graun joined LLCC Nov. 20 as administrative assistant to the dean, English and humanities. She previously worked at Camp Lincoln, Illinois Army National Guard as secretary for the inspector general’s office. Cassie and her husband also own and operate Graun Bee Company in Petersburg, where they harvest and sell honey. She is an LLCC alum, who earned an associate in arts.
LLCC will be closed for Thanksgiving recess Wednesday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 26. No classes will be held, and administrative offices at the Springfield campus as well as outlying locations in the LLCC district will be closed. Regular hours will resume Monday, Nov. 27.
LLCC’s Holiday Party for faculty, staff and retirees will be held Dec. 7, 4-6 p.m. in the Student Union (lower level of Menard Hall).

Join LLCC Advancement on Nov. 30, 1-3 p.m., and learn why we’re “s’more than you think” while you enjoy hot chocolate and s’mores. You will also learn about scholarships at LLCC, the LLCC Career Center, LEAGUE grants, Giving Day activities and other fun things Advancement does for the college.
While Advancement staff are currently spread out throughout the college, the open house will be in the LLCC Foundation, Menard 1214.
LLCC’s “Art After Hours” exhibit closes at the end of day, Tuesday, Nov. 21. There is still time to vote for your favorite artwork! The artist of the favorite piece at LLCC will receive a $100 Visa gift card courtesy of the Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum.

The exhibit is in the Trutter Museum/Murray Gallery in Menard Hall, level 2 and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. LLCC’s AAH exhibit runs through Tuesday, Nov. 21. The exhibit features 24 pieces of artwork from LLCC faculty and staff.
AAH is a program of the Springfield Area Arts Council offering individuals the opportunity to display original art created outside the office.

Ernest Ashby joined LLCC Nov. 13 as course materials coordinator. He previously worked at the Law Enforcement Training Advisory Commission for more than 14 years. He is a former LLCC student and earned a bachelor’s degree in photography and a minor in art history for Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
In celebration of winter holidays around the world, the LLCC Holiday Party Planning Committee is asking faculty and staff to share a brief description of their favorite family winter holiday tradition. Stories might include a favorite food dish that is always part of the holiday meal, a traditional family activity or anything else that makes your winter holidays special.
To participate, follow the link below and fill out the form by Monday, Nov. 20. The committee will review your story for posting at the LLCC Holiday Party in December.
