“You Know?” student communication: Week of Feb. 19

You know? LLCCPlease join us in letting students know that commencement is around the corner.

Students who plan to earn their degree or certificate in spring/summer 2024, must apply for graduation. They can find the graduation application in LoggerCentral.

Caps and gowns, for those eligible to participate in commencement, go on sale March 27. Details will be emailed to their llcc.edu accounts. Information about the 2024 LLCC Commencement ceremony can be found on the graduation webpage.

 

Commencement 2022

Commencement 2022 will be held this evening, May 13, 7:30 p.m. at the Bank of Springfield Center. Seating is limited, and guests have assigned seats spread throughout BoS to ensure social distancing. View logistical information and line of march.

The event will also be livestreamed via the LLCC YouTube channel so our graduates can share the moment with extended family and friends.

Commencement is a time when the focus is on our graduating students, and we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments!

Tomorrow, May 13, 2022, the LLCC Commencement ceremony will be held at the Bank of Springfield Center, 1 Convention Center Plaza, and will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. with the processional. Faculty and administrators are asked to please arrive no later than 7 p.m. to assemble in line.

View attached files for the line of march. They indicate approximately where you will be seated during the 2022 commencement ceremony. The Faculty Marshalls this year are Carmen Allen and Jennifer O’Malley, and they will direct you to the appropriate location during both the processional and recessional.

Please note that due to COVID-19, the set up this year will be socially distanced and therefore the faculty will be sitting behind the graduates instead of flanked on their sides. This allows for more space between seats. Masks are optional. A diagram of the processional as well as the line of march is attached.

Upon your arrival, the line of march will be posted in several locations to refer to. Please line up according to your row number, which will also be posted on the side columns in the lineup area.

The processional will follow the typical order: 1) Board of Trustees and Executive Staff, 2) Faculty and Administrators, 3) Graduates. The recessional will be changed this year and will be in the order of: 1) Board of Trustees and Executive Staff, 2) Graduates will recess through the middle aisle of the Faculty and Administrators, 3) Faculty and Administrators.

LLCC Commencement May 13

LLCC will conduct commencement exercises on Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield. Seating will be limited, and all guests must have a ticket and will have assigned seats. A livestream of the ceremony can be accessed at www.llcc.edu/2022grads.

Nicole PedigoNicole Pedigo of Springfield has been selected as this year’s commencement speaker. She is graduating with an associate in arts degree with an emphasis in secondary education. Pedigo is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and plans to continue her education at University of Illinois Springfield, ultimately earning a master’s degree in education.

Ava V. Austin of Virden and Megan Jamison of Taylorville are serving as student marshals for the commencement ceremony. Austin is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has served as vice president of service and the Illinois Central District vice president. She will graduate with an associate in science degree with an emphasis in chemistry. Austin plans to transfer to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to continue her education.

Jamison served as Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Epsilon Kappa Chapter secretary, was the Student Radiographers Association treasurer and was named LLCC’s 2022 Outstanding Graduate. She is graduating with an associate in applied science degree with a concentration in radiography and will begin her career as a radiographer in the surgical department at HSHS St. John’s. She plans to further her education by becoming certified in both computed tomography and mammography.

Rebecca WattsRebecca Watts, Ph.D., is being recognized with the 2022 LLCC Honored Alumni Award. Dr. Watts serves as a regional vice president of Western Governor’s University where she leads operations across a 12-state area from Virginia to Maine. She works to expand student access, particularly among historically underserved student populations, and to enhance graduate outcomes, especially job placement and the expansion of alumni networking and engagement. Watts earned an associate degree from LLCC, bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University, master’s degree from University of Illinois Springfield and Ph.D. from Ohio University — all while working full time. She has served as associate vice chancellor for P-16 initiatives at the Ohio Department of Higher Education, executive director for the University of Wyoming Trustees Education Initiative and chancellor of WGU Ohio. She is an innovator in education policy, educator preparation, post-secondary educational access, alignment across the P-16 continuum and concurrent enrollment.

Join us for virtual LLCC Commencement at 7 p.m.

Join us this evening as we honor our graduates in the 2021 Virtual LLCC Commencement Ceremony at 7 p.m. The video will be available on YouTube and Facebook. The video is also available at www.llcc.edu/graduation along with more information.


“Our theme for commencement this year is Driven to Succeed. It captures our students’ strong motivation to achieve their goals during these unique times,” said Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president.

Graduates were invited to submit photos of themselves, which will be displayed as their names, degrees and certificates are read by Dr. Colin Suchland, LLCC professor of sociology.

The virtual event will also feature remarks from Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC President; Ken Elmore, Chair, LLCC Board of Trustees; Julian Marvel, LLCC Student Trustee; and Laurenn York, LLCC instructor of English and recipient of the NISOD Excellence Award, along with congratulatory messages from trustees, faculty and staff. The 2021 Outstanding Graduate, Julia Kienzler, and the LLCC Honored Alumni Award recipient, Dr. Catherine A. Kush, will also be acknowledged.

Graduate Parade and Selfie Stations

2021 LLCC Graduate written on rear windshield of vehicleWe are very proud of our 2021 graduates and their drive to succeed! Faculty and staff lined the Graduate Parade route yesterday, holding congratulatory signs and cheering on the graduates as they drove through the  main campus in Springfield.

We were also excited to see our 2021 graduates at commencement selfie stations on May 12 and 13! The stations had fun swag, backdrops and commencement-related props and were located in the Trutter Center on the Springfield campus and at Outreach Centers.
