Jay Kitterman, director, Culinary Institute, was interviewed by the SJR for an article in the Sunday, Jan. 26 edition regarding Culinary Institute spring classes.

LLCC was on the news at 5, 6 and 10 yesterday. WAND-17 ran a story about our police training and preparations in the event of a campus shooting. Police Chief Brad Gentry was interviewed. WCIA-3 had a story on the increase in truck driver training jobs posted online, featuring interviews with Bob Howard, truck driver training director, and student Darin Brauer.

Report from LLCC’s November 2013 Quality Checkup or Site Visit

LLCC’s Quality Checkup Report is now available on LLCC’s AQIP page. The Quality Checkup Report is a Higher Learning Commission (HLC) document prepared by the review team after completing a site visit. Its purpose is to document the team’s findings and communicate those findings to the HLC as well as the institution under review. The report references conversations held with various groups during its visit, reports on the accuracy of LLCC’s Systems Portfolio, comments on the how well LLCC demonstrated meeting the Criteria for Accreditation, and provides feedback regarding federal compliance expectations. Charlotte Warren, Ph.D., president, was interviewed Jan. 21 by WUIS on the LLCC mission and plans for 2014. The interview will air Monday, Jan. 27. We will announce a more specific time when it is provided.

Condolences to Cheryl Vertrees

Our sincere sympathy to Cheryl Vertrees, admissions office coordinator/student records evaluator, on the passing of her father, Tom Lippincott. Visitation is tonight (Tuesday) from 5-7 p.m. atHull United Methodist Church in Hull. The funeral is Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church, with burial in Kinderhook Cemetery in Kinderhook. Memorials may be made to Barry Food Pantry or Hull United Methodist Church Altar Guild, in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Mo.

Minutes posted for December SGC and Team Meetings

At the Dec. 2nd Professional Development Team meeting, a discussion was held regarding the membership and purpose of the team. A recommendation was drafted to change the team charter. Click HERE for more details.

The Shared Governance Council held a meeting Dec. 3, at which they approved recent updates to the Bylaws, welcomed new members and elected Cynthia Maskey, dean, Health Professions, as the new Chair.  View the full minutes to read about other items discussed.

SGA Student wins scholarship essay contest

A big congratulations to LLCC Student Government Association member, Jordan Roach, one of the 3 recipients of the 2013 Illinois Community College Student Activities Association (ICCSAA) scholarship.  Jordan won the scholarship based on a reflection essay she wrote about the Fall 2013 ICCSAA Leadership Conference she attended on Nov. 1st and 2nd in Gurnee, IL.  The essay addressed her experience at the ICCSAA conference and how she will use it on LLCC’s campus and also how being a student leader will impact her life after community college.

LLCC holds job fair for laid-off miners

LLCC-Litchfield hosted a job fair for laid-off miners from the Crowne III mine on Jan. 15. Bob Howard, director of truck driver training, was interviewed by the SJ-R for this story, Laid off miners look to the future.  The story was also picked up by the Associate Press and appeared in the Philadelphia Centre Daily Times, Seatle-Tacoma Bellingham Herald, Miami Herald, Belleville News-Democrat, Greenville-Spartanburg Fort Mills Times, Lexington Herald Star, Columbia’s The State, Myrtle Beach Sun News, Boise’s Idaho Statesman, Macon Telegraph, Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Anchorage Daily News, Biloxi Sun Herald, and in the online publication All Voices.

Participating in the job fair in addition to Bob were Leslie Johnson, director, LLCC-Litchfield/Hillsboro; Mac Warren, assistant director, recruitment and response; Dave Pietrzak, aviation specialist; Roger Larkin, electrical distribution lineman program; and Steve Bryant, workforce specialist. State Representative Wayne Rosenthal, LLCC trustee, was also in attendance.
