Mary Beth Ray, director, Career Development Services,  was interviewed Jan. 31 for this story, “Supermarket expansions add hundreds of jobs” in the SJ-R on career opportunities as a result of the new HyVee grocery store and other grocery stores expanding. She gave salary information and tips for job seekers, and reminded everyone that these stores hire all kinds of workers, from cashiers to dieticians to pharmacy techs. The story is scheduled to run Feb. 1 or 2.

LLCC Quiz Bowl “A” Team advances to national tournament

The Lincoln Land Community College Quiz Bowl “A” Team won the sectional tournament hosted at LLCC Jan. 25 and now advances to the national community college championship in Atlanta, Ga. Feb. 28-March 1. The LLCC “A” Team has a record of nine wins and no losses. The LLCC “B” team finished third in the tournament. Other participating teams were Frontier Community College (second place) and Rend Lake College (fourth place).

Individual toss-up awards were won by LLCC’s Brett Davis (second) and Samuel Woolsey (third).  First place for toss-ups was won by Clay Hoskins of Frontier Community College. Moderators included Samantha Reif, instructor, geology; Aaron Staley, former Quiz Bowl team member; and Donald Taylor, a local Quiz Bowl expert. Friends and family of team members also assisted with timing and scoring.

Two pieces of ceramic work by Michelle Coakes, professor of art, have been accepted into a national juried exhibit called “Clay3“.  The exhibit will be held in Warrenville, Ill. west of Chicago  Feb. 28-March 30. Congratulations!

Thank you from Student Life

A big thank you to all of those who helped make the Student Life Office’s 5th Annual Volunteer Fair a great success, particularly to those faculty members who brought their classes by and encouraged them to network with the not-for-profit representatives. We had 112 students fill out pledge cards and promise to complete approximately 2,315 hours of community service!

Report from LLCC’s November 2013 Quality Checkup or Site Visit

LLCC’s Quality Checkup Report is now available on LLCC’s AQIP page. The Quality Checkup Report is a Higher Learning Commission (HLC) document prepared by the review team after completing a site visit. Its purpose is to document the team’s findings and communicate those findings to the HLC as well as the institution under review. The report references conversations held with various groups during its visit, reports on the accuracy of LLCC’s Systems Portfolio, comments on the how well LLCC demonstrated meeting the Criteria for Accreditation, and provides feedback regarding federal compliance expectations.
