Results from Spring 2013 Bird Banding Season

LLCC Board of Trustees welcomes new faculty

The Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees welcomed new LLCC faculty Tameka Johnson-Tillman, Mike Meyers, Colin Suchland, Anthony Tate and Brian Earley at its August meeting Wednesday evening. READ MORE.

Also at the meeting, Drs. Chris McDonald and Tricia Kujawa, co-chairs of LLCC’s  Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) Steering Committee, briefed the board on the process and timeline for reaffirmation of accreditation of the college. A team from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association will visit the campus for a Quality Checkup November 6-8, with action on re-accreditation expected in May 2014. LLCC has been accredited by the Commission since 1973.

Subway hours; Grill closed

Subway in Menard Hall has returned to normal hours of operation,  Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Grill is no longer in operation.

New policies regarding children on campus and employee classifications; new procedures for fundraising and campus solicitations

A new policy (Policy 5.45) was recently approved regarding children on campus. Click HERE (pg. 75-last page) to read it. In the interest of safety, children under 16 should not be left unattended on campus. If you notice an unattended child, please notify the LLCC Police Department. Children will also not be allowed in classrooms. Students with child care issues can be referred to services available through the LLCC Child Development Center or other community resources.

Also recently approved were new procedures for these policies: 1.15 Solicitation on Campus (pages 54-56) and 9.4 – Raising/Expenditure of Funds (pages 5-7.)

Trutter Museum honors its namesake with new retrospective exhibit

The Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum at Lincoln Land Community College invites the public to the new exhibit “L. Philip Trutter: A Retrospect of Art and Architecture, 1913-2000.” The museum is located in the Trutter Center on the LLCC campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.

The museum is open to the public Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (when the college is in session) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment by calling 786.4510.

Philip TrutterThe anniversary exhibit, commemorating what would have been Mr. Trutter’s 100th birthday last month, includes historical photos of his architecture projects in addition to his personal architectural tools. Other display items include Mr. Trutter’s own artwork, representing nine different art mediums including his one-of-a-kind handmade puzzles for which he was known, plus interview excerpts featuring his thoughts on growing up in Springfield, his art and architecture. Ashikaga representatives visit campus

Officials of Ashikaga Junior College visited LLCC yesterday to discuss ongoing collaborations and tour campus.  Stops on the tour included an organic chemistry class; nursing, chemistry and physics labs; English as a Second Language classroom and the Child Development Center.  Ashikaga, Japan is Springfield’s “sister city,” and LLCC has a longstanding relationship with its junior college.
