In the news: Spring Security Awareness Day

LLCC’s Spring Security Awareness Day workshop, held on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. in Logan Hall, Room 1140, was covered by WICS and FOX 55. Approximately 40 community members attended the event. Many raised good questions and shared recommendations for future events. The next cybersecurity workshop will address wireless systems and safety and will be held Tuesday, May 1 at 6 p.m.

Mary Beth Ray, director of advising, counseling and career services, was interviewed on Feb. 7 during WICS Midday about the upcoming Career Connections Expo on Feb. 15. The event connects students, alumni and community job seekers with employers who are looking for candidates for jobs, internships and future connections.

Matt Vespa, professor of mathematics, was interviewed Feb. 6 by WICS about the 22nd annual regional-level Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Academic Challenge hosted by LLCC. More than 300 students from 18 high schools in the district competed in the event.

Nancy Sweet, director of culinary programs and operations, was interviewed by WICS on Bistro Verde’s opening day for the spring semester She discussed the opportunity the bistro presents for LLCC culinary students and the community. She is also the author of this week’s Epicuriosity 101 column in the State Journal-Register, “Root vegetables are tasty and plentiful now.”
