Coach Ron Riggle, LLCC’s head baseball coach and athletic director, reached his 700th win on Feb. 17 versus University of Arkansas Rich Mountain with a 7-5 victory.
Coach Riggle is in his 34th season coaching at LLCC and his 22nd year as head coach. He has served as athletic director at the college since 1997. Riggle also played at LLCC during the 1987 and 1988 seasons.
Riggle has been to the NJCAA National Tournament eight times (in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 2000 as an assistant coach and in 2014, 2015, 2019 and 2021 as head coach) and has won the national tournament twice (1994 and 2000).
He has been a part of five no-hitters and sent on over 200 players that continued to play baseball after their time at LLCC. During his time as head coach, there have been nine LLCC players who have advanced to play professional baseball.
“It is an honor to have been able to play for Coach Riggle and then join his staff,” said Coach Danny McGee, LLCC assistant baseball coach. “He has been a tireless worker and has always strived to represent LLCC with the utmost class and dignity. While there have been numerous individual awards and several victories, he always cared about the players off the field as much as on the field. He cares as much about their classroom accomplishments as their athletic accomplishments. His approach has resulted in him leading a championship caliber program for decades.”
