Nursing and respiratory care students learn from each other in sim lab experience

An interprofessional education (IPE) session involving nursing and respiratory care students was held in the nursing sim lab on Monday, Dec 5.

The purpose of IPE is to help students learn to work together collaboratively to enhance patient care. Emphasis is given on communicating together across the two disciplines and to learn from each other. In this scenario, a ventilator patient pulled his endotracheal tube out, and the nurses had to call a “rapid response team” to come evaluate the patient and give needed care. At the end of the simulation, the team met together to discuss what went well and what could be done to improve patient care.
