Introducing LLCC’s Data Governance Council

Pyramid chart of data governance operating model for Lincoln Land Community College. The bottom level is operational: data stewards, business level specific. The level above that is tactical: data subject matter experts (SMEs), cross business unit. Along the operational and tactical levels are data governance work teams. At the top of the pyramid is the strategic level: data governance council, strategic enterprise. Above that is the executive level, president's cabinet. Along all four levels are communications and escalation/approval path.Data are institutional assets that need to be effectively managed. In fact, data are a special type of asset, the only asset that is non-depletable, non-degrading, durable and strategic. As such, data deserves attention that is on par with other institutional assets. Yet data processes and oversight are informal and mostly absent at LLCC. With this as the impetus and context, a FY20 planning initiative was to design a data governance operational model for the college (see image for visual of LLCC model).

A series of short articles will introduce the college community to LLCC’s data governance structure. Today, we just want to introduce the Data Governance Council (DGC) membership.
