Approximately 280 students from 18 area high schools competed in the 24th annual regional Academic Challenge on Tuesday at LLCC. Students competed as individuals and as teams (of up to 14 students) testing in their choice of two of these subjects — biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, mathematics and physics.
During registration and lunch, LLCC hosted exhibits for students to learn about opportunities at the college. Also, thanks to support from the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE), a $200 LLCC Foundation scholarship was awarded at the event.
Dr. Vern Lindquist presented at the Academic Challenge, and Bill Bade served as emcee. The event was organized by LLCC Mathematics and Computer Science faculty Lucinda Caughey and Matt Vespa. Amy Williams and Carrie Henry coordinated the catering.
LLCC Public Relations and Marketing thanks those who set up and participated in the exhibit area: Dr. Carmen Allen, Bill Bade, Joni Bernahl, Barb Bernardi, Victor Broderick, Michelle Burger, Dean Butzow, Don Ecklund, David Ferrill, Dr. Claire Gordon, Patrick Moore, Tamie Penning, James Pierce, Jennifer Ramm, Ben Roth, Tony Rothering, Julie Sutfin, Dr. Kim Vogt, Duane Whitney and Karla Wilham.
