LLCCPD to host “Coffee with a Cop” Aug. 21

Officers from the Lincoln Land Community College Police Department and the LLCC community (students, faculty and staff) will come together Monday, Aug. 21 in an informal, neutral space to discuss issues, build relationships, drink coffee and enjoy refreshments. The informal gathering runs from 8:30-10 a.m. in A. Lincoln Commons, LLCC-Springfield, 5250 Shepherd Road. Everyone is invited to attend.

Coffee with a Cop” provides a unique opportunity for individuals to ask questions, bring concerns and learn more about the department’s work.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building, and some individuals may feel that officers are unapproachable on campus. “Coffee with a Cop” is designed to break down barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one interactions.

“Coffee with a Cop” is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance relationships between police officers and individuals one cup of coffee at a time.
