LLCC’s Capital City Training Center is offering a continuing education seminar June 14 titled “Current Trends in Drug Abuse.” The seminar is being presented by Bruce Talbot.
The Illinois heroin epidemic is being challenged with a wave of designer synthetic narcotic drugs. With strange chemical names such as “U-4,” and “W-18,” or a street slang name of “Badger Repellent,” these next generation narcotics are up to 10,000 times more potent than morphine! Other common street drugs of abuse such as cocaine and marijuana are also being challenged by designer synthetics including alpha-PVP (Blue Aqua) and 5F-ADB (Spice). This one-day seminar will update professionals on the latest street drugs of abuse in Illinois and innovative community responses to this latest drug challenge. Current Illinois drug abuse data will be presented from the Illinois Department of Health and drug seizure data from the Illinois State Police forensic labs.
Six contact hours is being awarded to nurses, professional/clinical counselors and social workers. Teachers will be awarded six CPDUs. IAODAPCA continuing education credits have been applied for and are pending. Law enforcement professionals as well as first responders are also encouraged to attend.
