The James S. Murray Gallery will feature “Intangible Tangibility: an exploration of connections,” an installation by LLCC graduate Anna Mulch, Nov. 28-Dec. 15.

A reception for the artist will be held Monday, Dec. 5 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. The gallery is located on the second floor of Menard Hall and is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

“Intangible Tangibility” is a combination of Mulch’s interests and musings on their connections via the social media site, Facebook. In her artist’s statement Mulch says, “Social media is a thing that people feel they cannot live without. It allows you to reconnect with the click of a button, share your innermost thoughts and develop connections based on interests. It is now socially acceptable to develop connections without ever meeting a person tangibly. In some ways the intangible connections can be more fulfilling than the tangible ones.”

Mulch is looking for viewers to actually interact with the installation. She will transform her virtual connections on social media into a system of visually engaging colored threads so that the viewer can physically trace a connection as well as flip through a selection of binders specifically coded to the strings.

Mulch is also a graduate of UIS and works as associate director of member services for the YMCA of Springfield. This is her first solo show.
