On Oct. 25, from 8-10:30 a.m. in A. Lincoln Commons, officers from LLCC Police Department and the LLCC community (students, faculty and staff) will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss issues, build relationships, drink coffee and enjoy refreshments. Everyone is invited to attend.

“Coffee with a Cop” provides a unique opportunity for individuals to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building, and some individuals may feel that officers are unapproachable on campus. “Coffee with a Cop” is designed to break down barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one interactions.

“We hope that students, faculty and staff will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns or simply get to know our officers,” says LLCC Police Chief Brad Gentry.

“Coffee with a Cop” is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
