Trutter Museum hosts Springfield Civic Garden Club’s Standard Flower Show June 27-28

The Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum is hosting the Springfield Civic Garden Club’s Standard Flower Show to honor the club’s 85th anniversary. The flower show is being held Friday, June 27 from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Trutter Center on the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

The theme of the flower show is “Our Legacy of Growing.” The exhibit will feature 70 floral designs, with an emphasis on table settings, artistic craft exhibits and educational displays on honey bees, daylilies and organic lawn care. The show opens with a special ribbon cutting at noon on Friday, June 27.  Co-chairs for the show are Karen Grant and David Robson.

The Standard Flower Show conforms to all the rules of the National Garden Club, Inc. and will be reviewed by accredited judges from Kentucky, Missouri and Illinois.

Co-sponsors of the show are Lincoln Land Community College and the Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum.

Trutter Museum hosts Chamber’s “Good Morning Springfield”

trutterThe Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum will host the Chamber’s “Good Morning Springfield” Tuesday, June 10 and you’re invited to stop by. The breakfast gathering begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Trutter Center and provides guests an opportunity to network and connect with community partners and friends. As a Chamber member, college faculty and staff are welcome to attend. Admission is $3 per person. Please stop by, connect with other Chamber members, and visit the Trutter Museum’s latest exhibit which celebrates Phil Trutter’s 100th birthday his work and love of art.

Trutter Museum to host 1st Thursday Speakers Series March 6

The LLCC Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum will present its 1st Thursday Speakers Series Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in the Trutter Center.  The event features local experts discussing various aspects of architecture. Speakers include Charles Joseph Pell, AIA, of Charles Joseph Pell Architects, Inc. in Springfield and Dave Leonatti, AIA, of Melotte, Morse, Leonatti, Parker, Ltd. in Springfield.

Trutter Museum honors its namesake with new retrospective exhibit

The Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum at Lincoln Land Community College invites the public to the new exhibit “L. Philip Trutter: A Retrospect of Art and Architecture, 1913-2000.” The museum is located in the Trutter Center on the LLCC campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.

The museum is open to the public Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (when the college is in session) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment by calling 786.4510.

Philip TrutterThe anniversary exhibit, commemorating what would have been Mr. Trutter’s 100th birthday last month, includes historical photos of his architecture projects in addition to his personal architectural tools. Other display items include Mr. Trutter’s own artwork, representing nine different art mediums including his one-of-a-kind handmade puzzles for which he was known, plus interview excerpts featuring his thoughts on growing up in Springfield, his art and architecture.
