Christie Hovey authors eBook

Christie Hovey, professor of computer applications, is the co-author of the recently published eBook, “Building a Foundation with Microsoft Office 2016.” Christie noted that what is unique about this book is that it has a “digital first” approach … a “fully interactive eBook that delivers embedded video, bite-sized content, integrated, built-in assessment and more.”

Faculty Development & Recognition Grant Report by recipient Michelle Coakes

This summer, with the assistance of a Faculty Development & Recognition Grant, I traveled to Deer Isle, Maine, to attend a two-week workshop at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. I have been to Haystack before, working with a variety of potters from around the country. The Pearsons, longtime Springfield physicians, made the award possible through a generous contribution to the LLCC Foundation.  The award annually recognizes an exceptional full-time, faculty member for his or her professional contributions to LLCC.  The 2014 award recipient will be announced at the annual faculty and staff recognition ceremony later this spring.

Career Development Services offers classroom visits

In the Career Development Services Office we are passionate about helping students choose and prepare for a career path.  We are always looking for ways to connect students to all the services we provide! As you are developing your syllabi and preparing your classes for the spring semester, please keep in mind that we are available to come and speak to your class.  Topics include: career exploration, interest inventories, resume writing, interviewing, job shadowing and internships.  We can even arrange for your students to do the Career Cruising matchmaker during our visit and each student will receive a list of 40 possible careers based on their interests. NISOD Excellence Award nominations being accepted

The college has begun the process of accepting nominations of faculty members for the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award.  This award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching and leadership at Lincoln Land Community College.  The awards are presented at the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Learning Excellence in Austin, Texas in May.  Past NISOD Excellence Award recipients from LLCC include:  Dave Cox, Jason Dockter, Marlene Emmons, Eve Fischberg, Peggy Goetsch, Angie Gum, Tim Humphrey, Jean Ladendorf, Dr. Christopher McDonald, Hugh McNiece, Dr. Richard Monke, Jennifer Ramm, Ryan Roberts, Tony Rothering, David Sack, Dr. Gerald Schaeffer, and David Sykes.

Students, staff and faculty may submit nominations, so please consider nominating a faculty member whom you feel exhibits excellence in teaching and leadership and any other qualities that set him or her apart.  The nomination does not have to be lengthy; however, it should contain an explanation of why you are nominating the faculty member, including examples of excellence in teaching and leadership.  Nominations should be sent to Leslie Rios, chair of the Faculty Development and Recognition Committee of the Faculty Senate, either via email (Leslie.Rios@llcc.edu) or paper.  The deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, Dec. 2, 2013.

LLCC Board of Trustees welcomes new faculty

The Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees welcomed new LLCC faculty Tameka Johnson-Tillman, Mike Meyers, Colin Suchland, Anthony Tate and Brian Earley at its August meeting Wednesday evening. READ MORE.

Also at the meeting, Drs. Chris McDonald and Tricia Kujawa, co-chairs of LLCC’s  Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) Steering Committee, briefed the board on the process and timeline for reaffirmation of accreditation of the college. A team from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association will visit the campus for a Quality Checkup November 6-8, with action on re-accreditation expected in May 2014. LLCC has been accredited by the Commission since 1973.

New Faculty welcomed to campus Thursday, Aug. 22

New Faculty Orientation hosted by the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching took place Aug. 22 at the Trutter Center. Presenters from different departments at LLCC welcomed the new faculty and held informative sessions throughout the day. The event, which started at 8:00 a.m., ended with a tour of the CELT’s Faculty Seminar Room. New faculty pictured are: Front-Tamika Johnson,  instructor, English; Mike Meyers, clinical coordinator and instructor, respiratory care.  Back-Anthony Tate, instructor, biology;  Brian Earley, instructor, auto tech; and Colin Suchland, assistant professor, sociology.
