Thank you from the Child Development Center

Work Together Wednesday 2022. Photos of children playing in an around a room full of boxes. Photo collage made with Picjointer
The LLCC Child Development Center wants to give a big thank you to our college community for answering the call for boxes! April 6 was Work Together Wednesday, and your donations helped us fill our Gross Motor Room. I wish you could have seen how the children’s eyes lit up to see this sight! They truly worked together to build some amazing box structures.

Thank you from the Child Development Center

As we teach the children to Be Kind. Picture of bumble bee.The LLCC Child Development Center thanks all who participated for their kindness in donating pajamas for the Mini O’Beirne Crisis Nursery, a non-profit social service agency. We will be delivering two boxes of pajamas to Mini O’Beirne, which provides emergency care for infants and children from birth through age six. It will brighten the face of a young child to receive a gently used or new set of pajamas. These pajamas will meet the needs of the children while they are at the crisis nursery. Any extra donations are given back to the community through their basic need’s pantry.

Child Development Center chosen for best practices video

Mary Beth Ponser being interviewed for educational videoThe LLCC Child Development Center was selected to be the site for video footage on Best Practices in Early Childhood Education. These videos will be part of the resources available to higher education faculty across the state as part of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Competency Modularization Project for the ECE higher education commission. The project has been coordinated by the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agency and funded through a grant from the Preschool Development Grant for Birth to Five.

The filming of staff interviews took place on Monday, Nov. 15.  Mary Beth Ponser (pictured), child development teacher; Cassy Taylor, child development assistant; and Laurie Rhodes, director, were interviewed for the video.  On Tuesday, specific aspects were filmed such as teacher/parent interactions during the morning drop-off, playground safety, gross motor room safety, classroom supervision, story time, formal meeting with a parent and a 30 minute video tracking the movements of one child in the classroom.  They concluded the video shoot on Wednesday with filming the learning activities in the classroom.  The segments now go back for editing and should be concluded by the end of this year.

In the community

The LLCC Child Development Center is represented at the annual Zhoulie Ghoulie Halloween event at Henson Robinson Zoo. Each classroom worked on a scarecrow for the display. This year, displays will not be staffed as additional safety precautions have been put in place for the event.

Child Development Center receives gift of PPE supplies

The LLCC Child Development Center was the recipient of a gift of PPE supplies from Community Child Care Connection. The gifts were given as a token of sincere appreciation for all the center has done, and continues to do, for the children and families in our community during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The PPE supplies were made possible by the COVID-19 Response Fund for the Greater Capital Region of Illinois. Supplies included disinfectant, bleach, gloves, hand sanitizer, adult masks, children’s masks, face shields, towels, facial tissue and laundry detergent, as well as some children’s books and posters. The Child Development Center is so grateful to Community Child Care Connection for this gift of much needed supplies.
