Paul Simon Essay Contest
Please encourage students to submit an essay in this year’s Paul Simon Essay Contest. Essays should consist of 500 typed words on the topic “How My Community College Changed My Life” and are due no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, March 19. Students can schedule appointments in the LLCC Writing Center to get help planning and revising their essays for the contest. The top LLCC essay submission will be forwarded on to the statewide competition for a chance to win a $500 scholarship for the fall 2021 semester. See the attached flyer for more information.

Writing in history
Writing Center spring hours
The LLCC Writing Center is available to help students with any writing assignment for any class at any stage of the writing process. We are currently meeting with students remotely via Zoom with some limited in-person appointments on the main campus. Spring hours of operation are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you teach a writing-intensive class and would like the Writing Center to visit your classroom, the Writing Center specialists are also available to conduct remote classroom visits via Zoom, MS Teams or pre-recorded video. If there are other ways the Writing Center can support students in your class, please let us know.

Writing Center hours for finals week
The LLCC Writing Center will be open to serve students through finals week during the following hours:
Monday-Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Writing Center will close Thursday at 3 p.m. and reopen Monday, January 11 at 9 a.m. for the spring semester.
Writing in journalism
In November, the LLCC Writing Center is highlighting writing in the field of journalism. We hope you enjoy viewing our Padlet presentation and will share it with your students.
If you assign writing in the classes you teach, please let your students know that the Writing Center is here to help. They can schedule appointments to meet with a writing tutor via Zoom by calling us at 217-786-2341. They may also be interested in checking out our online self-serve resources. If you are interested in the Writing Center conducting a remote classroom visit to explain our services to your students or present on a writing-related topic, please let us know by calling us or emailing Writing.Center@llcc.edu.
