A huge thank-you to all faculty and staff who presented a session for Professional Development Day this year. We had a large number of sessions for staff and faculty to attend on a wide variety of topics and it is all due to the willingness of these faculty and staff to share their knowledge and expertise with their colleagues. See the complete list PDD thanks.

Emergencies happen–be prepared!

With the beginning of a new term upon us, the LLCC Police Department would like to remind College staff and faculty to take a few minutes and refresh their memory in regards to what steps they need to take should an emergency situation occur on campus. Some resources to help you include:

Emergency Evacuation Maps – Posted in all classrooms and common areas on LLCC campuses, these maps depict routes of egress from your location, the location of the nearest severe weather safe areas, as well as the locations of fire alarm pull stations and fire extinguishers. These maps are also included in the back of the print version of the LLCC campus directory.

Emergency Quick Reference Guide – Posted in all classrooms and office areas [and available by request from the campus Police Department], these handy reference guides provide quick and easy access to basic information concerning what to do in specific types of emergencies.

LLCC Emergency Procedures for Main Campus and Emergency Procedures for Outreach Centers – can be accessed on the employee portal, LLCC Police page.

In addition, all faculty and administrators should review the guidelines for assisting physically disabled students/staff during an emergency. This information can also be found on the employee portal, LLCC Police page.

Keeping the Lincoln Land Community College campus community safe is a responsibility that rests with all of us, and on behalf of the LLCC Police Department, I thank you for your assistance!

Brad Gentry, Chief, LLCCPD

New automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at LLCC

You may have noticed some new additions hanging in several campus hallways this semester. These new additions are automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

AEDs are life-saving medical devices that can be used by trained individuals on those suffering from sudden cardiac arrest. The AED defib2attaches to a victim’s chest to assess the heart’s rhythm and, if needed, automatically determines whether or not a shock should be delivered to correct that rhythm. That “shock,” or metered electrical charge, can often restore the heart to a normal function and save that person’s life. It’s estimated by the American Heart Association that over 50,000 lives a year could be saved by the early use of an AED combined with prompt bystander Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

AED units were purchased by the College over the past year, and have been placed campus-wide at LLCC-Springfield, at all LLCC Outreach Centers and in each LLCCPD squad car. These AEDs feature basic audio and visual commands, and are designed to be simple to use by anyone who has been trained.

AED/CPR training is being offered by LLCCPD. Any staff or faculty member wishing to receive training should contact Community Service Officer Brendan Lee at 6.2278 for more information.
