Chemistry Club hosts “Haunted Lab” Friday

The LLCC Chemistry Club is hosting the fourth annual “Haunted Lab” Friday, Oct. 28 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road. Children five and older and parents/guardians are invited to the free event. Pre-registration is required at www.llcc.edu/haunted-lab.

Haunted LabChildren will see “spooky” science demonstrations and learn about experiments they can do at home. Experiments will be conducted by club members under the guidance of Jennifer Ramm, LLCC professor of chemistry. Children are welcome to wear Halloween costumes to the event. Halloween treats will be available for purchase.

Science demonstration shows will run about 20 minutes long and will take place in rooms 2213 and 2215 on the upper level of Sangamon Hall. Shows begin every 15 minutes at 5, 5:15, 5:30, 5:45, 6, 6:15, 6:30, 6:45 and 7 p.m. Children will see bubbles, color changes, fire and much more as they learn about science. While waiting for shows to begin, children can participate in hands-on activities and face painting across the hall in room 2216.

Hablamos Club Fundraiser

¡Hablamos!, LLCC’s Spanish Club, is hosting a fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Casa Real restaurant on Wabash Avenue in Springfield. The fundraiser is to help the club in its efforts to bring language classes to local elementary school children in districts with limited enrichment opportunities. Diners, please let your server know that you are dining on behalf of the LLCC ¡Hablamos! Club and the club will receive a portion of the proceeds. Hope to see you there, and bring a friend!”

Student Clubs hosts Zombie Prom Oct. 28

LLCC’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA), Feminist Activist Coalition (FAC) and Psychology Club are hosting the Zombie Prom Oct. 28, 6-9 p.m. in the Student Union, Menard Hall. The public is invited, ages 18 and over welcome to attend.

What is the Zombie Prom, you may be asking yourself? Zombie Prom is an inclusive alternative dance for both LGBTQ+ and heterosexual persons.  The event will feature socializing, dancing, a photo booth and refreshments, along with special guest Empefive (a local dance group) and live music from HISO radio’s very own DJ Yinka! Attire for the event is “costume homecoming,” dress-up, wear a costume, or whatever makes you comfortable. Several artistic student volunteers will also be on hand to help“zombify” attendees.

Entry fee is $3.00 per person or $5.00 for couples. Attendees also have the option to donate five items of nonperishable goods, eight for couples, in lieu of entry fee. All nonperishable donations will be donated to LLCC’s food pantry.

Thank you to all of the faculty, staff, students, exhibitors and restaurants who assisted and participated in any way to make the 13th annual Multicultural Fest a success! Despite the gloomy morning, we ended up having a beautiful day. A special thank-you to: The LLCC Baseball team, Ron Riggle and Student Life student staff for all of the help with set up and breakdown; The Culinary Department for doing an amazing job of facilitating the food; and SGA, Hablamos and Logger Activities Board for exposing the campus to some of the amazing culture we have here at home! Thank you for your continued support of this event. We certainly couldn’t do it without you! Until next year…

Volunteer spots still available at MULTICULTURAL FEST

The 13th annual Multicultural Fest is this Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 and are still needing volunteers to help set up and serve food. The event will take place outside of A. Lincoln Commons from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. We need a lot of extra hands and help to ensure its success and would really appreciate your help.
