Gay-Straight Alliance celebrates National Coming Out Day

National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is a civil day of awareness celebrating individuals who publicly identify LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer as well as other gender identities and sexual orientations). Today, Oct. 11 will mark the 29th anniversary of NCOD. To celebrate, the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) will be hosting an informational table in A. Lincoln Commons from noon-3 p.m. Students, faculty and staff are invited to stop by and learn more about the coming out experience and the LGBTQ+ community.

14th Annual Multicultural Fest is today, Oct. 4

14th annual Multicultural FestThe 14th annual Multicultural Fest will take place today, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons on the Springfield campus. It showcases various cultures with ethnic food, entertainment and cultural exhibits. LLCC Outreach Centers in Beardstown, Jacksonville, Litchfield and Taylorville will also host celebrations in October. The events are free and open to the public. Chemistry Club will have nacho bar Sept. 27

The LLCC Chemistry Club is hosting a nacho bar on Wednesday, Sept. 27 in A. Lincoln Commons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will support hurricane relief efforts. So stop by today for a plate of nachos and a soda! The cost for nachos and a drink is $5, and it is $1 for a drink only.

BSU sponsoring All In for Harvey – Blue Jeans Day Sept. 21

The Black Student Union is sponsoring Blue Jeans Day today, Thursday, Sept. 21, in support of hurricane relief efforts. You can still contribute to the fundraising effort by bringing donations to the LLCC Student Life office. For Blue Jeans Day participants, the minimum donation is $5.

All monies will be donated to the Illinois Community College System Foundation, which is joining with the Texas Community College System to provide assistance to community college students affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Honors program selling Krispy Kreme donuts Sept. 20

The Honors Program will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts today in A. Lincoln Commons from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Original glazed donuts will be available at the cost of $6 per dozen. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help Hurricane relief efforts. Payments can be made with cash or checks payable to “LLCC.”  Please consider purchasing a dozen … or two!

Student Radiographers Association raffling Cubs/Cardinals baseball tickets

The LLCC Student Radiographers Association will be selling raffle tickets for a Sept. 25 Cubs/Cardinals baseball game today, Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Stop by the A. Lincoln Commons to purchase a raffle ticket or two! Tickets are $1 a piece or 12 tickets for $10. The game will be at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, and the tickets are in section 14, row 2, seats 3 and 4 (behind home plate). The drawing for the tickets will be held on Sept. 21. The money raised will help the SRA pay for students to attend an annual conference.

Sign up to participate in 14th Annual Multicultural Fest by Sept. 15

LLCC Student Life extends an invitation to faculty and staff to participate in our 14th Annual Multicultural Fest, which will be held on Oct. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. outside A. Lincoln Commons. The festival provides a great opportunity for our students to learn more about other cultural traditions and customs. Participation could include hosting an exhibit table, performing, volunteering or all of these activities! If you are interested in contributing to our campus’ celebration of culture and diversity, please review the ways to participate below and submit a registration form or sign up to volunteer by Sept. 15.

Perform
We welcome entertainment through dance, storytelling, music, dialogue, narration or recitation. Traditional sharing can also include puppetry, pantomime, traditional clothing, artistry or other ethnic custom.

Host an Exhibit Booth
Hosting an exhibit booth is a great way to showcase culture through activities and/or art.

Volunteer
Volunteers are needed to help set-up and serve food. Take a look at the volunteer sign-up schedule to put in your availability.
