LLCC nursing students inducted into honor society

Ten second-year nursing students from the LLCC Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program were inducted into the Beta Nu Chapter of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society on March 28. The students had to maintain stringent academic requirements and complete a capstone community education project to be eligible for membership.

Students were honored at a special ceremony at the LLCC-Springfield campus. They received a certificate, an Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society pin and peach honor cords to wear at commencement. The co-advisors are Mary Goldstein, nursing professor, and Anatasia Till, nursing instructor.

The objective of the OADN Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society is to recognize the academic excellence of students in the study of ADN. The society encourages the pursuit of advance degrees in the profession of nursing as well as continuing education as a lifelong professional responsibility. The society also participates in the recruitment of qualified individuals into the nursing profession.

LLCC soil specialist team wins first place at national PAS conference

Nathan Goebel, Will Rexroad, Nathan ThompsonCongratulations to LLCC’s soil specialist team of Nathan Goebel (Harvel), Will Rexroad (Athens) and Nathan Thompson (Carlinville) who won first place overall at the national Professional Agriculture Student (PAS) Organization conference, with Goebel taking honors as the high individual overall! The event hosted more than 600 attendees and was held in Loveland, Colo. March 13-16.

Lori Jackson, Sky Kretzinger, Eston Coe, Clayton Schowe, Austin Dennison, Mason Fesser, Will Rexroad, Nathan Goebel, Nathan Thompson, Dakota DowsonTen LLCC Agriculture Club members competed in four team events as well as two individual competitions designed to test their knowledge and readiness for their future careers.

LLCC’s beef specialist team of Clayton Schowe (Warrenton, Mo.), Austin Dennison (Lincoln) and Lori Jackson (Jacksonville) won fifth place. The crop specialist team of Mason Fesser (Fillmore), Dakota Dowson (Auburn) and Eston Coe (Illiopolis) placed 14th overall.

The LLCC college bowl team of Skye Kretzinger (Chestnut), Showe, Dennison, Dowson and Rexroad finished with a 3-2 record, losing to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals.

Eston Coe, Lori Jackson, Nathan GoebelIn individual events, Jackson placed second in the agriculture education interview contest, and Goebel placed third in the fertilizer and agrichemicals division of the same contest. Coe placed third in the agriculture sales competition.

PAS is a career and technical student organization for college students interested in agriculture and has members from 20 states. In addition to competitive events, the national conference provides an opportunity for students to attend workshops, hear from nationally renowned speakers and meet with representatives from a dozen agriculture firms with employment opportunities across the country.

SGA collecting donations today

The LLCC Student Government Association is collecting donations of personal hygiene items today, March 20, in A. Lincoln Commons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, feminine products, toothpaste and toothbrushes will be used to create toiletry bags for Sojourn and the LLCC Food Pantry.

Dance Club coffee and cocoa sale today

The LLCC Dance Club: Express Your Seoul is holding a coffee and cocoa sale today from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. The sale will feature a variety of creamers along with hot chocolate and all the toppings you can think of! Glazed, powdered and chocolate donuts will also be available for purchase.
