MaryShannon WilliamsMaryShannon Williams, Ph.D. joined the college June 1 as the director, faculty development. She is in her 24th year working in education, which includes a background in both K-12 and higher education, most recently at Purdue. She earned a bachelor’s degree in film production from University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in learning, design and technology from University of Texas at San Antonio and a doctorate degree in learning technologies from University of Missouri. Becky Parton elected to ITC board of directors

Becky Parton, dean, LLCC Academic Innovation and eLearning, has been elected to the board of directors for the Instructional Technology Council (ITC). She will represent the North Central Regional member colleges in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The ITC, an affiliated council of the American Association of Community Colleges, is a leader in advancing distance education throughout the US and Canada. ITC’s mission is to provide exceptional leadership and professional development in higher education to its network of eLearning practitioners by advocating, collaborating, researching and sharing exemplary, innovating practices in educational technologies. ITC tracks federal legislation that will affect distance learning, conducts annual professional development programming, supports research and provides a forum for members to share expertise.

LLCC Academic Innovation and eLearning is hosting a Canvas Open Lab today, May 3, 1-2 p.m. both in-person in SO119 and virtually via Zoom (attend open lab via Zoom). Ask the AIeL team your Canvas questions and for any additional help with Canvas you may need.

Chat GPT, a new Artificial Intelligence tool, uses machine learning to generate text in response to a wide range of prompts. There are many questions and concerns about how effective the tool is at generating responses and how its existence will affect education now and into the future. This session will include a demonstration of Chat CPT and a discussion on talking to students about Chat GPT, including ethical considerations related to its use and how faculty may update assignments and assessments based on Chat GPT’s presence. This discussion will also include a conversation about how Chat GPT might be used to enhance teaching and learning. ​​​​​​​

This brown bag session will include drinks and dessert for those in attendance.

Note: Faculty can receive one point toward their Training and Innovation professional development total for successful completion of this workshop.
