pieces accepted into the “River2River Ceramics Exhibit” at the Ceramics Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It is a juried regional exhibit open to anyone residing in any states bordering Iowa (Blue Skinned Basket and Large Threaded Oil Can). In addition, she entered the Tall Teapot with Scribbles in the Professional Exhibit at the State Fair.

LLCC Theatre and Theatre in the Park present “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”

Theatre in the Park and LLCC Theatre present one of Shakespeare’s earliest romantic comedies, “The Two Gentlemen of Verona,” May 29, 30, 31, June 4, 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. at Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site. Tickets are now available online. Tickets are also available by calling 217.632.5440, Wednesdays through Fridays, noon–5 p.m. or noon-8 p.m. on show nights.

Directed by Mark Hardiman, LLCC professor of theatre, the play explores the pursuit of love and how ridiculous four young lovers may behave on their varied journeys to true love. “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” is considered one of Shakespeare’s earliest plays. It deals with love and rivalry and includes some of the Bard’s most memorable foolish servants and sassy young women. READ MORE

Jazzin’ for Jack concert tonight

The LLCC Big Band presents Jazzin’ for Jack–a Benefit Concert for CFC Syndrome tonight, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, 6th and Cook, Springfield.

The concert features the LLCC Big Band with Courtney Fleck, soloist; Kevin Carman, guitarist; and Alex Lang, trombonist. The band will perform vintage charts, such as “Pennsylvania 65000,” “Misty,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,”  and “Sing, Sing, Sing,” along with funk charts, such as “September,” and “Shining Star.”

Donations are being accepted for CFC Syndrome – Cardiofasciocutaneous Syndrome.  Jack Waddell, son of Jason Waddell, instructor of music, has CFC Syndrome. Read more about CFC Syndrome HERE.

Student Art Show winners announced; see the show before it’s gone!

Winners of the juried annual Student Art Show have been announced. All entries will be on display until May 7 in LLCC’s James S. Murray Gallery. The gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Fifty-eight art students submitted a total of 112 entries for consideration; the juror selected 62 entries for the show. Winners (with titles and categories) are:

Local artist Suzanne Schmid served as juror for the show. Schmid, operator of Zanne Avenue Custom Jewelry in Springfield, holds a sculpture and art installation degree from the College in Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Today: National Library Week celebration continues; Student Art Show reception

The LLCC Library continues its celebration of National Library Week by hosting a Book Art Contest, in conjunction with Leslie Stalter’s Art 115 – Three Dimensional Design class. Students will drop off their submissions at 2:30 p.m., and library staff will vote on their favorites. Winners will be announced at the next class meeting Tuesday, April 21. Submissions will remain on display inside the library. Other events for Thursday include:

• Food for Fines – the first 100 people to bring in a non-perishable donation will win a free book light. You don’t have to have library fines to donate! All proceeds benefit the Central Illinois Food Bank.
• Free candy at the Reference and Access Services desks.
• Add to the “What’s Your Favorite Book?” poster.
• Daily raffle drawing! Winner will receive a $5 gift certificate to the bookstore.

The LLCC art department welcomes the LLCC community and the LLCC Student Art Show 2015public to join them at a reception for the Annual Juried Student Art Show this evening from 5:30–7:30 p.m. outside the Murray Gallery. Award winners will be announced in several categories. A special invitation is extended to all students who put forth the effort to enter their artwork for jurying. The student show will be open for viewing until May 17.

Donate $5 for Jeans Day today and support the Brian McMillen Veterans Scholarship. Donations are being accepted by the Student Life Office.

Jane Hartman Trio to present “My Romance” Sunday, April 19 in LLCC Recital Series

The final performance in the 2014-15 Lincoln Land Community College Recital Series will feature the Jane Hartman Jazz Trio on Sunday afternoon, April 19. The free performance begins at 4 p.m. in the Trutter Center.

Jane Hartman, LLCC professor of music and well-known area musician, along with Gene Haas and Brian Justison, present “My Romance,” an afternoon of romantic jazz pieces along with 19th century piano pieces in the Romantic style.

LLCC’s Annual Juried Student Art Show opens April 13 in the James S. Murray Gallery on the second floor of Menard Hall. Suzanne Schmid, owner of Zanne Avenue Jewelry, served as juror for the show. The LLCC art department welcomes the LLCC community and the public to join them at a reception Thursday, April 16 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. where award winners will be announced in several categories. A special invitation is extended to all students who put forth the effort to enter their artwork for jurying. The student show will be open for viewing until May 7.

LLCC’s annual Student Art Show will open Monday, April 13 in the James S. Murray Gallery and will be open for viewing 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays until May 7.

A reception and awards ceremony will be held in the gallery on Thursday, April 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Award winners will be announced in the categories of painting, 3D, printmaking, design graphics, drawing, ceramics, photography and best of show. Also announced will be the recipient of the art history award. Light refreshments will be served.

All LLCC art students were invited to enter their artwork for jurying. Suzanne Schmid, owner of Zanne Avenue Jewelry, will serve as juror for the show, choosing the winners in the studio art categories.
