A press conference is being held today, Feb. 20, 10:30 a.m. in the Trutter Center to announce a new Lincoln Land Community College/Memorial Health System (MHS) partnership to address a vital community need. Speakers include Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president, and Ed Curtis, president and CEO, Memorial Health System, along with an LLCC student.
Twenty-one eligible nominations were received for the 2020 Drs. Raymond and Ann Pearson Master Teacher Award. The award annually recognizes an exceptional full-time, faculty member for his or her professional contributions to LLCC. The 2020 award recipient will be announced at the annual faculty and staff recognition ceremony.

LLCC is celebrating African-American History Month during February with various events. The theme for this year’s observance is “Vision 2020: Elevate, Accentuate, Illuminate Your Future.” The LLCC African-American History Month Committee and LLCC Student Life are event co-sponsors unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday, Feb. 19 – “Whatchu Kno Bout Us?”, African-American history trivia, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons.
Saturday, Feb. 22 – “Expressions: In Living Color,” a college-wide unity dance, 9 p.m. to midnight, Trutter Center. The event is co-sponsored by the LLCC Black Student Union, Logger Activities Board and the Open Door Mentorship program.

You can still view the Illinois Freedom Project travelling exhibit yet today at LLCC in A. Lincoln Commons. The Illinois Freedom Project is a multimedia initiative that shares the stories of freedom through the lens of the people, places and events in Illinois history. The exhibit is travelling to Looking for Lincoln communities throughout the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area through 2020.
In observance of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, LLCC is hosting activities on campus and at Outreach Centers. On campus, the college is hosting the Illinois Freedom Project travelling exhibit through Feb. 13 in A. Lincoln Commons. The Illinois Freedom Project is a multimedia initiative that shares the stories of freedom through the lens of the people, places and events in Illinois history. Lincoln Home interpretive staff are also on campus today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. talking about Lincoln and his time in Springfield, and there are opportunities to take a photo with a Lincoln reenactor from 8-9:30 a.m.
Today from noon to 2 p.m., LLCC-Litchfield is hosting an exhibit of Lincoln artifacts from the Historical Society of Montgomery County, and author Carol Alexander will be on hand at LLCC-Taylorville to share local Lincoln stories. LLCC-Jacksonville is holding a presentation from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Lincoln’s impact in Morgan County. Throughout the week, LLCC-Beardstown is featuring showings of the movie “Lincoln” and personally guided tours of the Old Lincoln Courtroom and Museum.
