The press conference announcing the expansion of LLCC’s nursing program with support of Memorial Health System was covered by WICS, WAND, WMAY, WTIM, the State-Journal Register and City of Springfield Public Access Channel 18. Those interviewed included Dr. Charlotte Warren, president; Haley Caise, LLCC nursing student; and Ed Curtis, president and CEO of Memorial Health System.

Dr. Warren was also interviewed this morning by WTAX.

LLCC Foundation announces 2020 Pearson Master Teacher nominees

Twenty-one eligible nominations were received for the 2020 Drs. Raymond and Ann Pearson Master Teacher Award. African-American History Month

Celebrate African-American History Month. Vistion 2020: Elevate, Accentuate, Illuminate Your Future. Click for information about events through the month of February.
LLCC is celebrating African-American History Month during February with various events. The theme for this year’s observance is “Vision 2020: Elevate, Accentuate, Illuminate Your Future.” The LLCC African-American History Month Committee and LLCC Student Life are event co-sponsors unless otherwise noted.

This week’s events include:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 19 – “Whatchu Kno Bout Us?”, African-American history trivia, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons.
  • Saturday, Feb. 22 – “Expressions: In Living Color,” a college-wide unity dance, 9 p.m. to midnight, Trutter Center. The event is co-sponsored by the LLCC Black Student Union, Logger Activities Board and the Open Door Mentorship program.

Illinois Freedom Project

The Illinois Freedom Project Exhibit. Feb. 11-13, A. Lincoln Commons, Springfield Campus. A multimedia initiative that teaches about the journey from slavery to freedom in Illinois. LLCC Outreach Centers will host Lincoln-themed activities during the week of Feb. 10.
You can still view the Illinois Freedom Project travelling exhibit yet today at LLCC in A. Lincoln Commons. The Illinois Freedom Project is a multimedia initiative that shares the stories of freedom through the lens of the people, places and events in Illinois history. The exhibit is travelling to Looking for Lincoln communities throughout the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area through 2020.

Lincoln’s birthday events

Illinois Freedom Project Exhibit in A. Lincoln CommonsIn observance of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, LLCC is hosting activities on campus and at Outreach Centers. On campus, the college is hosting the Illinois Freedom Project travelling exhibit through Feb. 13 in A. Lincoln Commons. The Illinois Freedom Project is a multimedia initiative that shares the stories of freedom through the lens of the people, places and events in Illinois history. Lincoln Home interpretive staff are also on campus today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. talking about Lincoln and his time in Springfield, and there are opportunities to take a photo with a Lincoln reenactor from 8-9:30 a.m.

Today from noon to 2 p.m., LLCC-Litchfield is hosting an exhibit of Lincoln artifacts from the Historical Society of Montgomery County, and author Carol Alexander will be on hand at LLCC-Taylorville to share local Lincoln stories. LLCC-Jacksonville is holding a presentation from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Lincoln’s impact in Morgan County. Throughout the week, LLCC-Beardstown is featuring showings of the movie “Lincoln” and personally guided tours of the Old Lincoln Courtroom and Museum.
