It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Adrienne “Ada” Range, associate professor of biology, who passed away May 9. She began as an adjunct instructor at LLCC in fall 2014 and became full time in fall 2015. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, friends and the students she taught and encouraged. A visitation will be held Sunday, May 15, 2-5 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home in Chatham. The family will host a celebration of life Saturday, May 21, 4 p.m. at Sheedy Shores Wine Garden. Read the obituary.

Our sympathy to Karen Riddell
We extend our sympathy to Karen Riddell, recently retired program assistant, adult education and literacy, on the passing of her husband, Gary Riddell, on May 2. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to noon, at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, and a service will follow. Read the obituary.

LLCC Commencement May 13
LLCC will conduct commencement exercises on Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield. Seating will be limited, and all guests must have a ticket and will have assigned seats. A livestream of the ceremony can be accessed at www.llcc.edu/2022grads.
Nicole Pedigo of Springfield has been selected as this year’s commencement speaker. She is graduating with an associate in arts degree with an emphasis in secondary education. Pedigo is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and plans to continue her education at University of Illinois Springfield, ultimately earning a master’s degree in education.
Ava V. Austin of Virden and Megan Jamison of Taylorville are serving as student marshals for the commencement ceremony. Austin is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has served as vice president of service and the Illinois Central District vice president. She will graduate with an associate in science degree with an emphasis in chemistry. Austin plans to transfer to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to continue her education.
Jamison served as Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Epsilon Kappa Chapter secretary, was the Student Radiographers Association treasurer and was named LLCC’s 2022 Outstanding Graduate. She is graduating with an associate in applied science degree with a concentration in radiography and will begin her career as a radiographer in the surgical department at HSHS St. John’s. She plans to further her education by becoming certified in both computed tomography and mammography.
Rebecca Watts, Ph.D., is being recognized with the 2022 LLCC Honored Alumni Award. Dr. Watts serves as a regional vice president of Western Governor’s University where she leads operations across a 12-state area from Virginia to Maine. She works to expand student access, particularly among historically underserved student populations, and to enhance graduate outcomes, especially job placement and the expansion of alumni networking and engagement. Watts earned an associate degree from LLCC, bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University, master’s degree from University of Illinois Springfield and Ph.D. from Ohio University — all while working full time. She has served as associate vice chancellor for P-16 initiatives at the Ohio Department of Higher Education, executive director for the University of Wyoming Trustees Education Initiative and chancellor of WGU Ohio. She is an innovator in education policy, educator preparation, post-secondary educational access, alignment across the P-16 continuum and concurrent enrollment.

The LLCC Honors Club is selling Krispy Kreme donuts in A. Lincoln Commons today, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per dozen.
LLCC students honored at Student Recognition Ceremony
LLCC recognized students with academic, leadership and special awards at the Student Recognition Ceremony April 26.
The top award of 2022 Outstanding Graduate was presented to Megan Jamison of Taylorville.
The award recognizes a graduate’s excellent grade point average, leadership, motivation, service to the college community, extracurricular activities and ability to overcome obstacles. Jamison will graduate in May with an associate in applied science degree in radiography. She has been active in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and was recognized as the 2022 New Century Workforce Scholar in Illinois by the Coca Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Several recognitions were also given to LLCC faculty, including: Dr. Claire Gordon, Advisor of the Year, Retiring Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Advisor; Becky Croteau, Retiring Environmental Club Advisor; and Dr. Joseph Hoff, Retiring Spanish Club Advisor.
Retirement reception for John Mark Henry and Tom Sidener today
A retirement reception is being held for John Mark Henry, professor of math, and Tom Sidener, associate professor of computer science, today, 2:30-4 p.m. in the Robert H. Stephens Room.
New admission application
LLCC’s new admission application is live after a lot of hard work by staff across the college! Be sure to check out www.llcc.edu/apply and look at the new application. Students are now prompted to select the appropriate application. The new primary and dual credit applications have received a major update to make it easier for students to complete the forms.
Tickets on sale yet today for PTK parking spot raffle
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is holding its first “Parking Spot Raffle” in over two years! The lucky winner will be able to park in the Phi Theta Kappa parking spot located near the southeast corner of Menard Hall for the remainder of 2022. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5, and are on sale yet today, April 27, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. You can pay with cash or check (made out to LLCC). The winning ticket will be announced at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 28. If you have any questions, please contact Claire Gordon, Phi Theta Kappa coordinator.
