LLCC will induct 15 individuals and two championship teams into its 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday, Feb. 18 as part of Founders’ Day activities.
Inductees will be honored at halftime of the men’s homecoming basketball game versus Illinois Central College, which begins at 3 p.m. in Cass Gym.
Inductees are: Scott Blackwell, Christopher Booth, Scott Curtis, Andy Danner, Geza Ehrentreu, Kris Erickson, Jason Knoedler, Ryan Leach, Barbara Streeter-Montgomery, Rick Montooth, Emily Orrick, Scott Pillsbury, Mark Romer, Brad Squibb, Gene Vincent, LLCC 1974 Track and Field Team, LLCC 1994 Baseball Team.

You are invited to the 9th annual Lincoln Lecture at 9 this morning in the Trutter Center. Commemorating the 208th birthday of President Lincoln and the 50th anniversary of LLCC’s founding, the program features a panel of Lincoln experts including Alan Lowe, executive director, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum; Kathryn Harris, president of the Abraham Lincoln Association; and Samuel Wheeler, Ph.D., Illinois state historian; with moderator John Squibb, Ph.D., LLCC faculty emeritus.
Panelists will address the topic of “Working Together for the Lincoln Legacy” and provide a wide-ranging conversation about the 16th president’s life and the many ways organizations today are working together to keep the Lincoln legacy alive.
ALSO TODAY: Abe Lincoln Birthday Celebration and Homecoming Kickoff, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons. The event includes a presentation by Fritz Klein actor and Abraham Lincoln impersonator, and Kathryn Harris, in addition to Lincoln trivia, refreshments and giveaways.
LLCC-Beardstown – week of Feb. 13: A short essay contest regarding little known facts about Lincoln is being held. In addition, there will be a Lincoln photo booth and prizes awarded to winners of a Lincoln trivia quiz and a pennies-in-the-jar guessing game.
LLCC-Jacksonville – Feb. 20: Mike Anderson, recognized educator, storyteller and nationally known musician will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students will participate in games that were popular during President Lincoln’s day and compete in a Lincoln trivia contest.
LLCC-Litchfield – weeks of Feb. 6 and 13: LLCC-Litchfield staff is visiting local elementary schools and reading books to the students about Abraham Lincoln. Students at the centers will be provided information on local Lincoln attractions and served refreshments Feb. 15.

The one hour ceremony features music by the LLCC Big Band and speakers Craig Findley, chair, LLCC Board of Trustees; Dr. Charlotte Warren, president; Dr. Robert Poorman, founding president; Bill Craig, founding faculty member; and Brandon Lewis, current student trustee. Eldon Greenwood, founding trustee, and Bill Ames, first LLCC student, will be recognized.
A 25th anniversary time capsule will be opened and new items added by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The new 50th anniversary book “50 Forward!” will be on sale with a signing by the author, Dr. Betty Kyger Workman.
Following the ceremony, visit “Forward: An Anniversary Exhibition” in the James S. Murray Gallery. Refreshments will be served.
Women’s and men’s homecomingbasketball games begin at 1 and 3 p.m. in Cass Gym. The LLCC Athletic Hall of Fame class of 2017 will be introduced during halftime of the men’s game at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Persons or entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act are to fly the flags at half-staff from sunrise Feb. 8 to sunset Feb. 10 in honor of Special Warfare Operator William “Ryan” Owens, United States Navy from Peoria, Ill.
As a special preview for faculty, staff and students, the 50th anniversary exhibit “FORWARD: An Anniversary Exhibit” is now open in the James S. Murray Gallery, which is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
The exhibit is part of the Founders’ Day Celebration Feb. 18 and will be open to guests on that day.
The exhibit was organized by David Laubersheimer, retired dean of Arts and Humanities; Jan Nobbe, retired assistant to the vice president, Academic Services; and Glenda Thomas, retired assistant to the dean, Arts and Humanities. They worked countless hours for more than a year to diligently plan, find, categorize, organize and preserve the treasures on display. They were assisted by Leslie Stalter and Thom Whalen, professors of art; Sandy Bonn, library monograph specialist, Carl Jones, retired instructional media specialist and Dan Stainfield, LLCC student.
