Presentation by Ambassador Charles Ray today, 10 a.m.

Ambassador (Ret.) Charles Ray“The Future of U.S. Diplomacy,” a presentation by Ambassador (Ret.) Charles Ray, will be held today, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Trutter Center. Ambassador Ray will discuss the landmark actionable report, “Blueprints for a More Modern U.S. Diplomatic Service,” which provides recommendations on how the U.S. organizes and executes its diplomacy.

The campus community and public are invited to attend. This is an opportunity to have your voice heard and provide your thoughts on the recommendations in the report.

During his 30-year career as a Foreign Service Officer, Ambassador Ray was posted to China, Thailand, Sierra Leone and Vietnam. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia and to Zimbabwe.

The presentation is sponsored by LLCC and the World Affairs Council of Central Illinois.

The ambassador will also meet with the Honors Program Leadership Class taught by Dr. Chris McDonald from 9-10 that morning in the Trutter Center.

Honors Program collecting donations for M.E.R.C.Y. Communities

As a reminder, the LLCC Honors Program student club is collecting donations for M.E.R.C.Y. Communities from 10 a.m. to 2  p.m. today and tomorrow! The donation box is in A. Lincoln Commons. Items to donate: diapers (especially sizes 4, 5 and 6), feminine hygiene (deodorant, tampons and pads), toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash soaps, toilet paper, dish soaps, tissues, blankets and monetary donations. Hot chocolate is being provided for free as well, so stop by and donate to share some holiday joy with those who are less fortunate!

Honors Program Student Club collecting for MERCY Communities

The Honors Program Student Club will be collecting funds and items Dec. 1 and 2, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons to benefit MERCY Communities that helps at-risk or homeless women and children in the Springfield area. “Feed the Need” food drive kicks off today

Feed the Need: LLCC Food Pantry Food DriveThe Honors Humanities class is hosting a “Feed the Need” food drive for the LLCC Food Pantry starting today and going through Nov. 8. Today’s kickoff events in A. Lincoln Commons include a demonstration on cooking easy college meals at 10 a.m. followed by Heidi Hughes of the Central Illinois Food Bank speaking on food insecurity. Drop-off boxes are located in Student Life, Montgomery Hall and the Workforce Careers Center. Drop off non-perishables into the designated boxes to earn a ticket for prize drawings (including gift cards and gift certificates to area restaurants) that will be held Monday, Nov. 11.

Suggested items include:

  • To-go peanut butter cups
  • Pop-Tarts
  • Microwavable mac & cheese cups
  • Tuna salad ready-to-go kits
  • Cans of soup
  • Cans of vegetables/fruit
