Laurie Rhodes, director, Child Development Center, wrote an essay entitled “We Nurture Learning” for the State Journal-Register’s Our Towns section Sunday, Oct. 5.

David Bowman, workforce development specialist, was interviewed Friday, Oct. 3 by WTAX radio and Monday, Oct. 6 by WFMB radio regarding the $883,000 grant awarded to LLCC to establish ag watershed and land lake management programs.

The LLCC-Jacksonville Multicultural Fest was the front page story in the Oct. 2 Jacksonville Journal Courier. Keri Mason, assistant director, and a student were interviewed on WLDS-WEAI radio regarding the fest.

Dr. Judy Jozaitis, vice president, workforce development and community education, and David Bowman, workforce specialist, were interviewed by WICS-TV and WUIS radio Oct. 1 on the $883,000 federal grant to create training programs in agricultural watershed and landscape lake management training programs.

Jamie Stout, Community Education director, was a guest on the WICS-TV Midday Community Spotlight Sept. 30 to talk about the ALL Fall Celebration.

Jolene Adams, culinary instructor, demonstrated Pear and Pancetta Salad on the WICS-TV Midday cooking segment Sept. 29.

Marnie Record, workforce specialist, was interviewed Sept. 25 about the value-added local food certificate program for an article regarding the “Illinois – State of Innovation” project for the Illinois Economic Development Guide.

Lisa Collier, associate vice president, Enrollment Services, wrote the LLCC essay for the State Journal-Register Sept. 7, entitled “Avoiding student loan debt: LLCC gives you the tools.”

Mary Beth Ray, director, Career Development Services, wrote “Five tips to be a cut above the competition and land that job” for the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Job Fair page  in the State Journal-Register Sept. 8.

Jay Kitterman, director, Culinary Institute and special events, was interviewed by the State Journal-Register for the Sunday A la carte column Sept. 7 on upcoming classes.

Charlyn Fargo, culinary instructor, was interviewed by WCIA on nutrition topics Sept. 4.

Dee Krueger, assistant director, LLCC-Taylorville, was featured on WTIM’s “Ask The Professional” on Thursday, August 28. She discussed upcoming fall events at LLCC-Taylorville and provided information on the enrollment process for the upcoming spring semester.

Julie Rourke, director of workforce development, and Marnie Record, workforce specialist, were interviewed Aug. 28 by the SJ-R regarding LLCC’s new Value-Added Local Food certificate program.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin held a news conference Friday, Aug. 8 at LLCC to call attention to student loan debt and the questionable practices of some for-profit colleges. He said that community colleges are a quality and affordable alternative to for-profit colleges and should be strongly considered by all seeking higher education. Participants in the roundtable discussion were Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president; Deborah Hagan, chief of consumer protection for the Attorney General’s office; Dr. Karen Anderson, executive director of the Illinois Community College Board; Dev Gowda, advocate with Illinois Public Interest Research Group (PIRG);  and Dawn Thompson of Athens, a single mother and current online student at Everest College. Her student loan debt is more than $100,000.

The press conference was fed to CNN and CBS affiliates in Chicago, and was covered by local media WICS, WCIA, WTAX, WUIS and by John Reynolds and Bernie Schoenberg of the SJ-R.

Tisha Miller, operations analyst at LLCC-Taylorville and Litchfield, was interviewed July 30 on WTIM’s “Ask The Professional” about upcoming construction at LLCC-Taylorville, the enrollment process, and LLCC-Taylorville fall 2014 class offerings She also spoke on WSMI-AM about the enrollment process, topics covered at New Student Orientation, fall classes being offered at LLCC-Litchfield and upcoming events including Rapid Registration events.

Lynn Whalen, executive director, PRM, was interviewed by WLDS radio regarding community college presidents holding exploratory discussions on the possibility of  Illinois community colleges offering four year degrees in some applied technology and health sciences fields.
