Therapy Dogs at LLCC Library this MONDAY

therapy-dogsGuess what? Therapy dogs are coming to LLCC Library on Monday, Nov. 7 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and they need YOU to come by and pet, squeeze and snuggle them. Did you know petting a dog helps relieve stress? What a great way for students to let loose, relax, and unwind. Please help us spread the word to your classes, student workers, and other students. Remember, all faculty and staff are welcome to come by and pet the animals, too!

Sue McKinney, a therapy dog owner/handler, will be on campus with her certified and insured dogs as a stress-relief service. They will bring their most experienced dogs for a visit to the library this Monday AND we have also scheduled a visit during finals week, which will take place on Monday, Dec. 12, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Lillian Scalzo artwork on display in Library

motherchild-by-lillian-scalzoSix original works by the late Springfield artist Lillian Scalzo are being displayed in LLCC’s Library.  These pieces are among 18 items recently donated to the collection at the Trutter Museum and include paintings, copper enameled items among others.

In 1929, Miss Scalzo was involved in the development the art department at Springfield Junior College (later SCI and Benedictine) and was instrumental in the establishment and growth of the Springfield Art Association where she came to know the late Phil and Kitty Trutter.

The display coincides with the opening of a new exhibit at the Trutter Museum which opens this Friday, with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m.  LLCC students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

The museum is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or anytime by appointment.  For more information, call 6-2217 or click here.

LLCC ID/Library Cards now obtained in Bookstore

As of July 11, LLCC IDs have moved from the LLCC Library to Campus Services and are located inside the LLCC Bookstore. Students, faculty and staff who need IDs should now come to the bookstore for this service. Although the ID machine will no longer be located in the Library, student and staff IDs will still function as library cards.

“Food For Fines” at LLCC Library

Do you have an overdue library book? Don’t forget, the LLCC Library is accepting “Food for Fines” until the end of the semester (this Friday).

Food for Fines is a fundraiser drive allowing patrons (students, faculty, staff, or community members) to “pay off” any fines or fees on their account by bringing in donations for a local food pantry. Patrons can bring in one non-perishable item to receive $5.00 off their total fines. For instance, if you owe $20 in processing fees and bring in 4 donation items, your account balance will go down to zero. Please note that donations cannot be used to pay for lost books. We have teamed up with the Central Illinois Foodbank to donate everything we collect. View a list of items that the Central IL Food Bank is in need of.  Feel free to contact Mary DiMaggio if you need any more information. Thank you!
